Obituary | M. Jane Stewart
M. Jane Stewart, emerita professor of business education, passed away on August 25.

Jane Stewart, emerita professor in business education, died on August 25, 2023, at the age of 100.

Graduating from University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1944, Stewart earned a certificate of superior scholarship. She moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, teaching business classes at Scottsbluff High School before attending UCLA for graduate work.

Stewart returned to the university as a professor in business education and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the State Business Education Association in 1980. She retired with emeritus status in 1985.

A member of Pi Lambda Theta and Delta Pi Epsilon, Stewart also served on the Nebraska State Business Education Association, American Association of University Professors and American Association of University women. She was listed in Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in Mid-West, and the World Who’s Who of Women, as well as Selected Authorities in Business Education.

Stewart volunteered for the Lincoln Lancaster Crippled Children’s Society, where she was the downtown solicitation chairman for two years starting in 1963. Following retirement, she also volunteered for the Lincoln Literacy Council.

Born September 16, 1922, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Guy L. and Esther (Bissell) Stewart, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard. She spent most of her life in Lincoln and enjoyed swimming, tennis and travel. She also spent winters in Tucson after retiring. An avid reader, she cherished many wonderful friendships and especially appreciated the many former students who remained in touch throughout the years. Her obituary noted a special thanks to longtime professor at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications Larry Walklin, and his wife, Karen; Ken and Karen Kaser; and Marguerite Babcock, whose friendship and support meant so much.
