Research + Discovery
- Özgür Araz, professor of supply chain management and analytics, David Olson, James & H.K. Stuart Chancellor's Distinguished Chair and professor of supply chain management and analytics, and coauthors' article, "Role of Analytics for Operational Risk Management in the Era of Big Data," was one of the top downloaded articles during its first 12 months of publication in Decision Sciences. The paper examines recent developments in academic operational risk management literature from the data analytics perspective.
- Thomas Omer, Delmar Lienemann, Sr. Chair in Accountancy and professor of accountancy, and his co-authors' research was featured in the Wall Street Journal CFO Journal's Morning Ledger. The e-newsletter took a look at the potential impact of audit firms splitting their audit and advisory businesses. Their research shows providing some nonaudit services can improve audit quality. - Jennifer Ryan, department chair and professor of supply chain management and analytics and Ron and Carol Cope College Professor, was interviewed for a June 7 Marketplace story on retailers having too much inventory of certain items as the lockdown lifestyle fades. Inflation aside, people are starting to spend their money differently than they did during the height of the pandemic, Ryan said. The story has been picked up by 60-plus media outlets. - Eric Thompson, department chair, K.H. Nelson College Professor of Economics and director of Bureau of Business Research, was interviewed for a June 20 KLKN story on Nebraska’s economy. He said the state’s economy continues to grow, but inflation raises the risk of an economic slowdown or recession. Read the KLKN story.
- Yunxia (Peter) Zhu, associate professor of supply chain management and analytics, was interviewed for a June 11 KMTV story on rapid inflation in the United States. Read the KMTV story.
Learning + Transformation
- Nearly 1,200 College of Business students earned Dean’s List recognition for academic excellence in the spring semester. Read the story.
- Four teams of Huskers topped the chart with the best score during seven weeks this spring in the Business Strategy Game, where students from around the world manage a publicly-traded footwear company. Read the College of Business story.
- Forty-three first-year students join the Nebraska Business Honors Academy in August. They will complete most of their core and foundation business curriculum together focused on developing critical thinking, technical and communication skills. Read the story.
- MBA@Nebraska May graduates Brittany Kruglick of Phoenix and Casey McLynden of Arlington Heights, Illinois, were named among the Online MBA Best and Brightest Class of 2022 by Poets&Quants. Read the story.
Connection + Engagement
- Amy Bartels, assistant professor of management, '07 & '10, Gwendolyn Combs, associate professor of management, '00, and Lindsay Thomsen, assistant professor of practice in management and director of business development for the Center for Entrepreneurship, '01, appeared on the Girls Code Lincoln Podcast recorded during the university's Women Lead Conference. They speak about their career journeys and focus on improving the future workplace. Listen to May 22, April 8 and March 11 podcast episodes.
- Rachel Larson, assistant dean of academic and career development, served as co-chair for the 2022 National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Conference in Portland, Oregon.
