Honors and Awards

  • The 2024 Women Lead conference, a collaboration between the College of Business and College of Law, earned global recognition with a silver Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence Award. The conference earned the honor among 4,400 entries from 620 institutions across 33 countries. The event promotes the advancement of women in business, law, government and nonprofits. The CASE awards honor exceptional work in advancement services, alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing. Read the story about the award.

  • The UNL Staff Senate recognized three College of Business staff members for exemplifying the N2025 Strategic Plan's guiding principle that every person and every interaction matters: Christa Rahl, graduate advisor and engagement coordinator in Business Graduate Programs, Engagement Award; Phyllis Schwab, operations manager in the Department of Economics, Problem Solver Award; Kimberly Smith, associate director of Communications, Marketing and External Relations, Inclusive Excellence Award.
  • Scott M. Fuess Jr., Steinhart Foundation Distinguished Professor of Business and professor of economics, was named the 2024-25 Sue Vagts Faculty/Staff Partner of the Year for 2024-25 by the Business Career Center. The award honors a College of Business colleague who collaborates with the center to build employer relationships and enhance career development for students.

  • Trinity Hansen, Master of Professional Accountancy student from Stapleton, Nebraska, received the 2024-25 Intern of the Year award from the Business Career Center. The award honors a student who demonstrates the center’s values through an outstanding internship experience.

Research and Publications

  • Natalie Chisam, assistant professor of marketing, and co-authors had their research paper, “Customer Data Privacy Stewardship,” accepted for publication at the Journal of MarketingRead the research article.
  • Rebecca Jack, Ph.D. student in economics, and Brenden Timpe, assistant professor of economics, contributed to a report from the Buffett Early Childhood Institute and Child Care Aware of America titled "Economics & Child Care: Where Are We Now and Where Do We Go?" Read the report
  • Three business faculty members were named 2025-26 Seacrest Teaching Fellows to conduct research on teaching innovation and effectiveness: Pedro Agüero, assistant professor of practice in management; Shane Moser, Nebraska Bankers Association Faculty Fellow and associate professor of practice in finance; and Lisa Tschauner, assistant professor of practice in management.

Notable Involvement

  • College of Business faculty and staff presented at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln All-Staff Conference in July, including: Kaitlin Ferris, assistant director of the Clifton Builders Program; Bethany Heser, assistant director of internship and job search strategies in the Business Career Center; Laura Lynn Horst, assistant director of professional and life skills; Kadina Koonce, assistant director of Career Development and Planning: and Todd Thornock, Raymond C. Dein Professor of Accountancy and associate professor of accountancy.
  • The Clifton Strengths Institute hosted its annual summer conference at the university, featuring speakers: Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business; Kaitlin Ferris, assistant director of the Clifton Builders Program; Chloe Heller, program coordinator in the Clifton Strengths Institute; Tim Hodges, Joan Heiser Endowed Presidential Chair, executive director of the Clifton Strengths Institute and associate professor of practice in management; Alyson Lenz, assistant director of the Clifton Strengths Program; and Kevin Wesley, associate professor of practice in management.   • Yajaira Pacheco-Menjivar and Yaritza Pacheco-Menjivar, both May graduates in international business from Omaha, received silver International Business medallions for academic and co-curricular excellence.

Competitions

  • Nathan Vahle, senior accounting major from Lincoln, and Josh Richardson, junior marketing major and Center for Sales Excellence student from Lincoln, competed in the Strike King Bassmaster College Championship at Cherokee Lake, Tennessee, in July. The two Husker Bass Anglers team members competed as a team against the nation's top 250 teams.

  • Zanib Al Razaq, senior economics and Spanish major from Lincoln; Matthew Gillespie, senior economics and political science major from Omaha; and Ethan Zen, senior finance and economics major from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, were featured in an article about their research trip to Africa as Yeutter Student Fellows.   • Wesley Boyce, assistant professor of practice in supply chain management and analytics, appeared on the July 19 KLKN Grow Lincoln radio show about recent changes in the supply chain field and how business students are applying lessons to real-world problems. Listen to the podcast recording.
  • Jennifer A. Davidson, associate professor of practice in economics, Nebraska Council on Economic Education president and Nebraska Bankers Association Faculty Fellow, appeared on Channel 10/11's "Map to Financial Freedom" series to discuss emergency savings. See the 10/11 Interview.
  • Tim Hodges, Joan Heiser Endowed Presidential Chair, executive director of the Clifton Strengths Institute and associate professor of practice in management, discussed student-employer connections and Nebraska workforce strengths in Silicon Prairie NewsRead the Silicon Prairie News story.
  • Revanth Raghupatruni, Ph.D. student in marketing, was featured in WalletHub's recent analysis of new credit cards. Read the WalletHub submission.
  • Eric Thompson, K.H. Nelson College Professor of Economics and director of Bureau of Business Research, appeared on the Grow Lincoln radio show July 26 to talk about trends in Nebraska's high-wage professional services industry. Listen to the podcast recording.
  • Logan Walsh, senior international business major from Thornton, Colorado, discussed his internship with the U.S. Grains Council in a podcast interview with KNEB 960 AM Scottsbluff. Listen to the podcast recording under "Seeds of Success."
