Despite setbacks the COVID-19 pandemic placed upon the world of higher education, University of Nebraska–Lincoln students at the College of Business pushed ahead to achieve academic excellence. The college recognized 196 students for their academic performance during the 2019-20 school year who earned top honors and received the Clifford M. Hicks Scholar Award, LeRossignol Scholar Award and William Gold Scholar Award.

“These awards honor our students' hard work and dedication to their education. We are proud of how they challenged themselves and showed resilience working toward their goals of leading the future of business,” said Dr. Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business.

Named for the founder of Gold and Company, the William Gold Scholar Award recognizes the top members of the freshman class. From last year’s class, 60 students received the award, all of whom earned a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0.

Due to their academic excellence and achievement, 41 sophomores earned the Clifford M. Hicks Scholar Award. Professor Hicks dedicated 43 years of service to the College of Business Administration, including 18 years as the chair of the Department of Business Organization and Management.

Ninety-five juniors whose academic performance exceled to the top of their class earned the LeRossignol Scholar Award. The award named in honor of James E. LeRossignol, the first dean of the College of Business, recognizes students for their top academic accomplishments during their junior year. 

“A long-standing tradition in our college, these awards celebrate our students' success as they pursue their degree and look to the future. We are happy to not only recognize them for their efforts but also to continue supporting them toward personal, academic and career success,” said Jen Mostek, director of Business Advising and Student Engagement.
