Chase Caverzagie, a senior actuarial science major from Papillion, Nebraska, will travel abroad to Benin in West Africa this December. Prior to the trip, students in their International Studies – Business & Economics (BSAD 491) class are working on two projects to explore the complexities of international trade and business in the frontier market. In Benin, the students plan to interview Beninese and other African immigrants to better understand their culture and experiences. The students will then present their plans to expand tourism and create employment for young people in Benin. Caverzagie selected the global immersion program to experience the African culture firsthand and learn from those in the College of Business who are familiar with the region. He shared how he looks forward to “seeing new things and experiencing a culture much different than my own.” » Full Article

The actuarial science program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln held its inaugural Actuarial Science Case Competition on February 3, in Howard L. Hawks Hall. The one-day event gave students the opportunity to learn about the work actuaries do by applying their knowledge calculating risk to recommend pricing on cell phone warranties. The new College of Business Huskers Shop opened its doors in Howard L. Hawks Hall and in doing so, started one of the most innovative business learning programs in the country. A joint effort with Nebraska Athletics, the College of Business and Fanatics, the Huskers Shop also includes a faculty advisor, a six-member student management board, students who work in the store and merchandise ranging from shirts and hats to the new plastic bags required in all Huskers athletic facilities to pom poms and fidget spinners. Though there are other stores on college campuses run by students, what makes the Huskers Shop stand out – besides the high-level partners involved – is that Fanatics also provides the business retail and financial data for professors and students to use and analyze in various business courses. » Full Article

The faculty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration recently approved changes to the undergraduate curriculum. Beginning in the fall of 2017, BSAD 150, Business Computer Applications will change to BSAD 50, and the Business Analytics/Information Analysis (SCMA 350) course will include an additional one-credit hour lab, SCMA 350L. BSAD 50 will provide more flexibility for students to complete the requirement in an online format, and SCMA 350/350L was updated to ensure students are best prepared for the demands of the business environment. » Full Article

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Actuarial Science program in the College of Business Administration was again designated as one of 16 Centers of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) in the U.S. by the Society of Actuaries through December 31, 2020. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln announced 798 College of Business Administration students were named to the Dean’s List for the 2014 fall semester. To be included, students must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.6 or higher for the semester. Master of business administration students qualify for the Dean’s List with a 4.0 GPA and nine or more credit hours.

A record number of nearly 200 advisory board members met at the UNL College of Business Administration on Friday, September 19, for the 2014 Partnership Summit and Advisory Board meetings. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration jumped 21 spots to No. 51 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of undergraduate business programs. There were 429 schools listed in the latest rankings based on an assessment survey conducted in the spring of 2014. U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty at each undergraduate business program accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and asked them to rate the overall quality of the undergraduate business program at each university. » Full Article

When Sara Benning visited University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration to learn more about the actuarial science program, she was inspired to move from Brookfield, Wisconsin, to Lincoln, Nebraska, and pursue her college degree.
