Nebraska Business Honors Academy Announces Tenth Cohort

43 High-Achieving Students Selected for Cohort-Based Program
Nebraska Business Honors Academy Announces Tenth Cohort
Forty-three high-achieving students join the Nebraska Business Honors Academy this fall, making the program’s tenth cohort since its inception in 2013. The cohort will develop skills through an enhanced curriculum.

Forty-three high-achieving, first-year students accepted invitations to join the Nebraska Business Honors Academy at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln this fall. Comprising the tenth cohort since the program started in 2013, the incoming students hail from six states through the United States and 13 towns across Nebraska.

“This cohort exemplifies how Huskers create the future they want to see. They bring to Nebraska Business extensive experiences in leadership and academic achievements,” said Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean and professor of finance. “These students will hone their academic and leadership skills, stretching their strengths together as they transform into future business leaders.”

The Nebraska Business Honors Academy cohorts complete most of their core and foundation business curriculum together using an action-based learning style focused on the development of critical thinking, technical and communication skills. Students choose from 11 academic majors at the College of Business, including business and law offered in partnership with the Nebraska College of Law.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome our tenth cohort to the academy. This marks a key milestone for our program, and this group of students is the perfect compilation of talents, skills and ambitions to join the academy ranks,” said Erin Burnette, director of the Nebraska Business Honors Academy.

Enhancing their professional communication through leadership activities and student competitions held across the country, the students also partake in internships to gain experience in the ever-changing world of business. More than 50% of the current academy students at Nebraska Business received paid internships in 13 states and two countries this summer.

Academy students also study abroad to prepare to make a global impact after graduation. Since January 2022, 28% of the current academy students studied abroad in eight different countries.

“These students are bright, eager and community-focused individuals, and I have no doubt they will quickly find ways to positively impact the academy, the College of Business and the university as a whole. Our team feels very honored to be able to have a front row seat as we help this cohort learn, grow and realize their potential as they progress through their college career,” Burnette said.

Involved in more than 150 student organizations on campus, academy students also serve in a variety of prominent leadership roles. Past graduates of the Nebraska Business Honors Academy utilize their talents in careers and graduate schools spanning 29 states and five countries.

Applications for the 2023 cohort open August 2022. To learn more about the academy, visit https://business.unl.edu/honorsacademy.
