May is always an exciting month at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as the campus is buzzing with students preparing for summer. Some head back home to work summer jobs or internships and spend time with their families. Some students continue to take courses on campus or online while 525 business graduates embarked on their new journeys, saying good-bye to college life. You can read more about the events hosted by the College of Business for graduates in the graduation story.

On May 16, the College of Business Career Center, formerly known as Career Services at CBA, hosted the annual Employer Partners Day for more than 120 community business partners. Dr. Rachel Larson, director of the Business Career Center, shared the many new opportunities the new building will hold for employers and I provided an update about the college. With breakout sessions about the international business program, insight about millennials and more, those who attended left knowing more about the future of Nebraska Business, our students and how they can be part of it.

As an alumnus, business partner and/or friend of the college, we have many ways for you to get involved the next few months as well. First, we have three Executive Education certificate programs this summer: Leadership Excellence, June 29-30; Finance and Accounting for Non-Financial Professionals, July 19-21; and Strategic Growth and Marketing, August 14-16. All three programs will be held at the Center for Entrepreneurship. Learn more or register at: business.unl.edu/execeducation.

Then the fifth annual Back to School Bash will be held at the new building on Friday, August 18, 3-5 p.m. Besides food, prizes and networking, we will also have the official ribbon cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce from 4-4:15 p.m. Tours of the new building will also be available. We hope all of you – students, parents, business partners, alumni and friends – will join the business faculty, staff and me at this celebration.

We will also have a Business Alumni Tailgate on Saturday, September 23, three hours prior to the Homecoming football game kickoff. This is another opportunity to see the new building and also to reconnect with faculty, staff and friends. The Actuarial Science program is celebrating their 60th Anniversary so they will be having a special event in the new building that day. Save the date and more information is coming soon. Also, this is a good time to update your addresses and emails with the Alumni Association at this link: huskeralum.org, so you receive our invitations.

The building will provide so many opportunities for our College of Business Community. We are grateful to the many who helped make it possible and hope our expanded Nebraska business community will come help us celebrate and see what we have started.
