Last year, Web of Science, an online scientific citation indexing service, named Dr. Fred Luthans, University and George Holmes Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Management, to the “Top 1% Citations” list of researchers around the world in all fields. Now, in an article in Scientometrics, a peer-reviewed academic journal, a new study of citations over the past 10 years in all fields of Business and Economics (B&E), again shows Luthans recognized for placing in the top one percent of all B&E professors in the world. » Full Article

It’s hard to believe summer is almost over and another academic year starts August 20. We are excited to welcome our new and returning students back to campus and also meet their parents, alumni and friends of the college. We spent the summer hosting high school programs about business, polishing our soon-to-be-released strategic plan and preparing for a new semester. A three-year standout for the Nebraska Women’s Gymnastics team, Megan Schweihofer enters her senior year with the accolades that student-athletes only dream of achieving when they step on campus. As a freshman, she helped get the Huskers to the NCAA Tournament as a two-event specialist in the vault and balance beam. Schweihofer, an accounting major from China, Michigan, spent her sophomore and junior seasons as an all-around performer, earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore and becoming the Big Ten All-Around champion as a junior.  » Full Article

Twenty-two teen entrepreneurs participating in Nebraska’s Future Builders Challenge completed an intensive, month-long internship with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Clifton Strengths Institute to gain the skills fundamental to becoming their own future business owners and industry leaders.  They launched their Lincoln Builders T-shirt business on June 27 and after one week of sales, they sold nearly $8,150 in shirts, shattering sales of previous Future Builders cohorts in Washington, D.C., Mexico City and Omaha, Nebraska. » Full Article

The fairytale season of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln women’s volleyball team has been well documented. Although the team had five seniors on the roster coming into this season, the program’s turnover was notable. Our first summer in the new Howard L. Hawks Hall building brings something special for everybody– from students to faculty to alumni and business partners. Our recent graduation class of more than 600 business students accomplished incredible things during their time at the College of Business and are already filling positions at firms in Nebraska, across the U.S.and around the globe. They are starting their careers with employers such as TD Ameritrade, Sandhills Publishing, Cerner, Microsoft, starting their own businesses and pursuing further education at institutions like Harvard Law and University of Chicago. On average, MBA@Nebraska alumni earn 40 percent more money after obtaining the degree. It’s our eighth week of classes in the new Howard L. Hawks building and we are enjoying our new home for the College of Business. This last month, we moved up three spots in the U.S. News & World Report rankings to No. 45 in the nation. We also received our final enrollment numbers and first-time freshmen in the College of Business increased by 14.8 percent. Overall undergraduate enrollment for the college increased by 5.6 percent and graduate enrollment is up 11.9 percent, making a combined enrollment increase of 6.3 percent for the year.  Leading the University in enrollment growth, our total enrollments have grown 29.5 percent in the last five years.  » Full Article

Motivated by solving business problems, Dr. Huanhuan Shi, assistant professor of marketing at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration, specializes in analyzing the modern sales workforce. Shi worked as a customer relationship manager in the banking industry in China prior to coming to the United States to earn her Ph.D. at Penn State University’s Smeal College of Business in 2016. More than 900 business students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln were named to the College of Business Administration Dean’s List and Honor Roll for the fall semester of the 2016-17 academic year. The 901 undergraduates who received this honor maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.6 or higher for the semester. The college also recognized 222 undergraduate students for achieving a 4.0 GPA. Twenty-one master of business administration students qualified for the Dean’s List with a 4.0 GPA and nine or more credit hours for the semester, and 58 students with a 4.0 GPA and six or more credit hours made the Honor Roll. » Full Article

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Bureau of Business Research (BBR) began releasing their monthly Leading Economic Indicator-Nebraska (LEI-N) in February 2012 and their most recent report saw the second biggest increase yet in projected economic growth for the state. Dr. Eric Thompson, director of the BBR and Dr. William Walstad, John T. and Mable M. Hay Professor of Economics, work with graduate students to compile the monthly findings. For the LEI-N, there are six components that predict future economic growth: single-family building permits, airline passenger counts, initial unemployment claims, manufacturing hours, the value of the U.S. dollar and business expectations gathered from the Survey of Nebraska Business. » Full Article
