Early this month we received news that Financial Times ranked our online Master of Business Administration program No. 1 in the world for alumni salary increases. On average, MBA@Nebraska alumni earn 40 percent more money after obtaining the degree. Our MBA was also ranked No. 1 in the nation for best value and 13 in the world overall, a two-spot jump from 2017 rankings. Read more about the rankings at http://business.unl.edu/news/

Spring time is normally a busy time at Nebraska Business. We host a number of events that engage many different audiences. For example, it’s a myth that employer interaction with our students dies down after the career fair week.

Alumni and business partners are invited to attend networking events with students enrolled in Career Development and Planning (BSAD 222). The one-hour events to be held April 2-5 provide students with tips in “working a room” and the opportunity to sharpen networking skills with business professionals. Guest networkers will enjoy a quick cup of coffee before networking. Get more information and RSVP with Assistant Director of Career Development and Planning Katie Sewell at ksewell2@unl.edu

The college will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the international business major with the International Business Summit, April 12-13. This two-day event offers opportunities to connect with local and international alumni and employers doing business on a global scale. Additionally, students will present about research, internships and global experiences. For more information and to RSVP, visit: http://business.unl.edu/ibsummit.

Also on Thursday, April 12, the School of Accountancy and the Department of Finance will host an Executive Insights panel discussion. Open to all students and the public, the panel features four alumni who will discuss issues leaders face and the qualities of strong business leaders. The event begins at 4-5 p.m. and is followed by a networking reception. RSVP to attend at http://business.unl.edu/executive-insights.

Please join the Business Career Center for Employer Partners Day on Friday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Henrickson Family Atrium of the Howard L. Hawks Hall. The BCC staff look forward to sharing new initiatives happening at the college and help you enhance our employer partners’ presence on campus. RSVP to attend at http://business.unl.edu/employerpartners.

Also at the event, they will award the Business Career Center Employer of the Year award to an organization which has gone above and beyond the commitment to students’ career development at the College of Business. Nominate your company for the award by Friday, March 30 at https://go.unl.edu/employeroftheyear.

In May, the College of Business will host the Personal Finance Challenge national competition. Jennifer Davidson, president of the Nebraska Council on Economic Education and assistant professor of practice in economics, partnered with State of Nebraska Treasurer Don Stenberg and Wells Fargo to make the event a reality. High school students will first compete at the state level before coming to Lincoln. Hosting a national competition like this helps in continuing the strong reputation of Nebraska as a leader in business education as well as being able to showcase Howard L. Hawks Hall. Facilities matter in higher education and this is the first opportunity we’ve had to host the competition so we’re very excited.

We will also host four power lunches in May following the great success of the power lunch series that finished this week. Our Executive Education program is fulfilling our business partners’ need for professional development.

This brand new facility – graciously provided by private support – is a game-changer for us. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to come see it yet or who want to see it again, I encourage you to attend one or more of the events mentioned above.

I look forward to seeing you soon and please continue to help us Start Something.
