Emily Bergen Heads the New Welcome Center

One of the most prominent features of the new Howard L. Hawks building includes the Welcome Center, provided by Pinnacle Bank. Located on the first level, near the northwest entrance, the large circular desk is the first thing you see as you enter the building as well as the person smiling behind it. Emily Bergen, a graduate of the Nebraska hospitality, restaurant and tourism program started as the welcome center receptionist when the building opened in August.

“The incorporation of the Welcome Center has been very exciting. I love that it features several of our showpieces which tell the stories of our donors and alumni who made the building possible. You can always tell when guests come here for the first time because they are speechless. I have heard many ‘wow’s’ when guests walk through the doors and even heard our building described as palatial,” said Bergen.

Bergen, who previously worked as a recruiter at the college, enjoys greeting the many students, faculty and staff who come to the building daily. She also appreciates talking with alumni who have never seen the new building.

“My favorite part of my job is when alumni stop in to visit and see the building for the first time. They are always so excited and proud to see the changes the college has made,” said Bergen. “Another thing I like about my job is seeing everyone who works here and talking with them as they walk in or out of the building. While I worked in the college for a year, I only knew a handful of people well. Working in the Welcome Center has allowed me to get to know our Nebraska Business community better.”

She also assists with facilities operations’ needs, such as event support, and other building and receiving needs.
