New experiences in Howard L. Hawks Hall continue to afford business students learning opportunities that maximize educational opportunities. Recently, Brandon Urry, assistant director for specialist programs, welcomed Bo Hanson to speak in his Managerial Skills Seminar class. Hanson, located in Australia, works in athletic assessment, and visited with students in the masters of arts in business with a specialization in intercollegiate athletic administration program via two-way videoconference technology. » Full Article

Of all the challenges facing the opening of the new Howard L. Hawks Hall at the start of the fall 2017 semester, one of the biggest involved equipping the facility with innovative new technology to help improve the educational experience for students, faculty, staff and alumni. David Hartline, director of information technology and facilities operation, proclaimed it to be one of the biggest IT projects in the history of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Demands included installing a new computer for almost every employee, delivering new dual monitor systems, upgrading phone technologies, activating ports and creating digital sign displays throughout the building. » Full Article

One of the most prominent features of the new Howard L. Hawks building includes the Welcome Center, provided by Pinnacle Bank. Located on the first level, near the northwest entrance, the large circular desk is the first thing you see as you enter the building as well as the person smiling behind it. Emily Bergen, a graduate of the Nebraska hospitality, restaurant and tourism program started as the welcome center receptionist when the building opened in August. » Full Article

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Information Technology Services employs high school interns during the summer in conjunction with the Lincoln Human Resource Management Association’s 1st Job Lincoln program which connects students and employers. The inaugural webcast of the Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration required months of collaboration from CBA Information Technology Services team members. Since early spring, the team worked behind the scenes to install and administrate the technology making the first presentation possible. CARMA provides university faculty, graduate students, and other researchers across the world access to advanced training in research methods and data analysis. » Full Article

Each summer, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration Information Technology Services unit partners with the Lincoln Human Resource Management Association (LHRMA) in conjunction with the Career Academy of Lincoln Public Schools to give local high school students the opportunity to work in IT. The program known as 1st Job-Lincoln began in 2013 and promotes the concept of preparing youth for their first professional job. Ty Biggerstaff, help center supervisor at CBA, believes the reciprocal nature of the program benefits the students and the college. » Full Article
