Donde's Point: December 2013

It seems we were just welcoming students to campus and now the end of the semester is almost upon us. It’s been an action-packed semester and I’ve enjoyed watching the new students find their way while our seniors prepare for interviews, secure jobs and get ready for graduation.

If you watched the last video edition of our newsletter, you know we unveiled the architect’s drawings for our new CBA building. It is remarkable to see how ideas generated in our meetings with the architects and discussions with faculty, staff and students have been translated into actual designs.

This fall we also hosted numerous events for students, alumni, business partners and other groups.
  • We launched our new CBA Executive Power Lunches (the next lunch is January 22 so click here to learn to more or register: http://cba.unl.edu/execed) that received rave reviews from those who attended.
  • From our women’s breakfast on Lean In, we created a new discussion board called WEELS (go to http://cba.unl.edu/weels to participate in the latest discussions about women in business or contact Laura Niles at lniles2@unl.edu for more information).
  • We hosted alumni professionals from all disciplines back to campus for the CBA Career Information Day and they spoke to students about what it takes to succeed in business.
  • CBA has been a hubbub of activity as described in our October and November newsletters (if you missed these newsletters go here to see the newsletter archives: http://cba.unl.edu/about/communications-marketing/communications/).
In November, Bloomberg Businessweek released its 2013 ranking of Part-Time MBA Programs and I am proud to report that we ranked 2nd in the Big Ten and 18th overall. That puts us ahead of such distinguished schools such as Indiana, UT Austin, Ohio State, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. This is more proof that the graduate business programs at Nebraska continue to rise in stature.

In this edition of INSIDE CBA, we have included a few great stories about our students, alumni and business leaders. Be sure and watch your mail in December for our CBA Nebraska Business Magazine. It includes more information about the new building, our enrollment increases and other great stories about our faculty, students, alumni as well as a special section about Celebrating 100 Years at CBA.

I wish you all the very best this holiday season and invite you to sign up as an Alumni Insider on our website at http://cba.unl.edu/alumni or if you have children attending CBA, please sign up as a Parent Insider at http://cba.unl.edu/parents. Make sure to check our alumni and parent web pages while you are there too. There is lots of great information. Also, to know the new CBA information as it happens, make sure to like us on Facebook (UNL – College of Business Administration), follow us on Twitter @unlcba and @DeanPlowmanCBA and join us on LinkedIn.

We want you to be connected to CBA as we have much to share.
