Learn more about recent honors, competitions, promotions, research publications, notable involvements and media mentions at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business in this month’s achievements column, highlighting the accomplishments of faculty, staff and students.

Honors and Awards

  • The College of Business named 1,589 students to its fall 2025 Dean’s List, including 1,513 undergraduate business students and 86 graduate students. Among undergraduates, 240 earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the semester, while 17 graduate students finished with a 4.0 GPA. Read the story and eligibility requirements.
  • Three business majors received International Business Medallions for increasing their global understanding and perspective on world issues through career building, global citizenship and well-being. Fall 2025 medallion recipients were senior international business majors Collette Feagins of Omaha, silver; Tawfik Mohamed of Lincoln, silver; and Maddy Yantes of Hutchinson, Kansas, bronze.   • Bergen Reilly, junior business and law major from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, earned one of the highest honors for a student-athlete as the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team Member of the Year. With a 3.83 cumulative GPA, she was named the Division I honoree in January.
  • Four Nebraska football players in the College of Business were recognized for academic excellence as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees, each with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA: Derek Branch, '25 Clifton Builders management graduate from Lincoln; Kyle Cunanan, senior management major from Phoenix, Arizona; John Hohl, junior management major from Lincoln; and Luke Lindenmeyer, senior finance major from La Vista, Nebraska. Research and Publications

  • Robert Campbell, associate professor of management, published research on the operational performance benefits of new CEOs beginning their tenures at the start of calendar or fiscal years in the Journal of Management. The research was also highlighted by the Harvard Business Review.
  • Natalie Chisam, assistant professor of marketing, conducted research in the Journal of Marketing that found companies that manage customer data with transparency and clear communication can gain a measurable competitive advantage through "privacy stewardship." The study found such strategies lead to stronger customer patronage and higher financial returns. It will be featured in the May issue of Harvard Business Review. Read the story.
  • Working research by Garrett Anstreicher, assistant professor of economics, and Rebecca Jack, Ph.D. student in economics, was featured on the Marketplace.org blog in "What Do Snow Days Cost Parents?" Their research finds working moms bear the brunt of snow day disruptions, missing an average of two workdays per event. Read the article.

Promotion

  • Dawn Bodine, who has worked at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for more than 14 years, including nine in Business Graduate Programs, was promoted to associate director of online graduate advising and student success.

Notable Involvement

  • Center for Sales Excellence Students
    The Center for Sales Excellence inducted 40 students into the Undergraduate Certificate in Sales Excellence Program.

  • Gretchen Holthaus, director of MBA and online graduate programs, met with the Big Ten Leadership group at the Graduate Management Admissions Council conference in San Diego in January. The group meets annually to share best practices and program updates.
  • Todd Thornock, Raymond C. Dein Professor of Accountancy and associate professor of accountancy, joined the Cornhusker Bank Advisory Board in Lincoln. The bank cited his expertise in accounting, analytics and strategic decision-making. The appointment was announced in the February edition of Strictly Business magazine.

Competitions

  • Husker Venture Fund Students
    Husker Venture Fund won first place among five teams from across the nation at the Venture Capital Investment Competition undergraduate regional in Pittsburgh.

    The Husker Venture Fund,  a student-led venture fund, won first place among five teams nationwide at the Venture Capital Investment Competition undergraduate regional Jan. 31 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. The team advances to global finals in April at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Team members are Shahd Khourshed, senior software engineering major from Lincoln; Samuel Lockhart, senior finance and accounting major from Papillion; Adam Messman, senior actuarial science major from Rensselaer, Indiana; Maddock Oberzan, senior finance major from Lawrence, Kansas; Sebastian Pucher, senior finance and economics major from Hickman, Nebraska; and Elizeh Tarkian, junior economics and finance major from Lincoln.

  • The Governor’s New Venture Competition, which encourages student-led entrepreneurship, awarded prizes to three winners in January. Business minors Kenny Wilson and Wilson Overfield, founders of FindU, won second place and $15,000, and Lauren Tranisi, business administration and data science major and founder of EyeQ, won third place and $10,000.
