New experiences in Howard L. Hawks Hall continue to afford business students learning opportunities that maximize educational opportunities. Recently, Brandon Urry, assistant director for specialist programs, welcomed Bo Hanson to speak in his Managerial Skills Seminar class. Hanson, located in Australia, works in athletic assessment, and visited with students in the masters of arts in business with a specialization in intercollegiate athletic administration program via two-way videoconference technology. » Full Article

Of all the challenges facing the opening of the new Howard L. Hawks Hall at the start of the fall 2017 semester, one of the biggest involved equipping the facility with innovative new technology to help improve the educational experience for students, faculty, staff and alumni. David Hartline, director of information technology and facilities operation, proclaimed it to be one of the biggest IT projects in the history of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Demands included installing a new computer for almost every employee, delivering new dual monitor systems, upgrading phone technologies, activating ports and creating digital sign displays throughout the building. » Full Article

One of the most prominent features of the new Howard L. Hawks building includes the Welcome Center, provided by Pinnacle Bank. Located on the first level, near the northwest entrance, the large circular desk is the first thing you see as you enter the building as well as the person smiling behind it. Emily Bergen, a graduate of the Nebraska hospitality, restaurant and tourism program started as the welcome center receptionist when the building opened in August. » Full Article

The inaugural webcast of the Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration required months of collaboration from CBA Information Technology Services team members. Since early spring, the team worked behind the scenes to install and administrate the technology making the first presentation possible. CARMA provides university faculty, graduate students, and other researchers across the world access to advanced training in research methods and data analysis. » Full Article

Each summer, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration Information Technology Services unit partners with the Lincoln Human Resource Management Association (LHRMA) in conjunction with the Career Academy of Lincoln Public Schools to give local high school students the opportunity to work in IT. The program known as 1st Job-Lincoln began in 2013 and promotes the concept of preparing youth for their first professional job. The opening of the new Digital Learning Center (DLC) in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons provided an opportunity for students in the College of Business Administration to be among the first to take advantage of the facility. Two classes led by Dr. Roberto Stein, assistant professor of practice in finance, took tests in the facility as it prepares for a full-scale opening in the fall.

This summer, we have been pleased to be working with 1st Job Lincoln interns Adam Zastrow (New Media), Bre Nelsen (Help Center) and Grayson Clark (Help Center).  Partnered with the Lincoln Public Schools and Southeast Community College Career Academy, the program prepares Lincoln high school youth for their first professional job in an IT field by providing Lincoln teens training on resume building, interview skills and professional development. They also host a yearly internship job fair where champion employers around Lincoln can interview candidates. » Full Article

CBA has been using Dell for the majority of computers for over a decade. With attractive price points and potentially improved service, HP is gaining interest in the education market. Systems Coordinator Jeff Sherrill is organizing an evaluation of HP computers in CBA. By deploying HP systems for some users receiving upgrades, and traditional Dell computers for others, CBA ITS hopes to collect survey data post upgrade to compare the two options in our environment. » Full Article

With the advent of the new College of Business building, and the addition of the Exam Commons in the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons, our CBA testing facility is entering a sunset phase. Currently, we are in a transitional period, which allows us to work with you during the move to the Exam Commons. The CBA Testing Center will discuss with instructors about the transition to the Exam Commons that is scheduled to open in the fall semester.

As part of UNL's new building security migration, the College of Business has replaced building key access with University Ncard scanner access. An Ncard reader was recently installed on the buildings east doors and the key lock was changed for UNL Police access only.
