Dr. William B. Walstad is the John T. and Mable M. Hay professor of economics at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and is the editor of the Journal of Economic Education. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on the assessment of economic and financial literacy at all education levels and ages.

Walstad has served as the chair of the American Economic Association’s standing Committee on Economic Education. He was also the principal investigator for the Teaching Innovations Program in economics, funded by the National Science Foundation, with the results reported in Teaching Innovations in Economics: Strategies and Applications for Interactive Instruction. 

Over the years, Walstad has directed projects to prepare the Test of Understanding of College Economics, the Test of Economic Literacy (high school), the Test of Economic Knowledge (middle school), the Basic Economics Test (elementary school). He also directed a project to develop three pre-college tests of personal finance: Test of Financial Literacy (high school), Test of Financial Knowledge (middle school), and Test of Basic Finance (elementary school).
