College Open House Night on Monday, Oct. 28, 6-7:30 p.m. is open and free to high school juniors, seniors, transfer students and their families. The event held on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city and east campuses offers attendees the opportunity to talk with academic staff and current students in their major or area of interest and explore seven different colleges and their facilities outside of the usual workweek.
“Selecting a major and a college to call home can be very overwhelming for high school students," said Kendra Ritchie, director of recruitment for the College of Business. "That being said, campus visits are an important part of the college search process as they give students a sense of what the campus feels like, but also educate them about degree options and give them a sneak peek at facilities. Not all families have the availability to attend a daytime weekday campus visit. Thus, the academic colleges at Nebraska chose to host an evening option to ensure that those who cannot attend a traditional visit could still have the opportunity to explore our offerings.”
Prospective students can choose to attend an Open House Night with the following colleges:
- College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources
- College of Arts and Sciences
- College of Business
- College of Education and Human Sciences
- College of Engineering
- College of Fine and Performing Arts
- College of Journalism and Mass Communications
Jeff Beavers, director of recruitment and outreach for the College of Engineering, noted how Open House Night is a great opportunity to connect with faculty, staff and students.
"It’s one of the few opportunities where we can get faculty together from different departments and allow families a space to ask more in-depth questions about our programs," said Beavers. "We are super excited to host our first fall open house in our new building, Kiewit Hall. This building truly is a game-changer in engineering education with a brand new maker space, collaboration rooms for group projects, walk-in tutoring and state-of-the-art learning labs!”
