Nearly 100 Huskers Go Abroad Through Business Programs

In-Person Global Experience Programs Resume
Nearly 100 Huskers Go Abroad Through Business Programs
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln returned to in-person study abroad programs this summer with 94 students participating in College of Business global experience programs. They traveled to England, Italy, Spain, and the newest program in Rwanda, where students visited historical sites and entrepreneurial organizations this summer, including Jasiri, a nonprofit that nurtures entrepreneurs.

After a two-year hiatus of in-person study abroad programs, 94 students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln traveled to other countries this summer as part of College of Business global experience programs. They included two long-time signature programs in England and Italy, a younger partnership with internships in Spain, and a new opportunity in Rwanda.

“Getting to spend time in a different country can’t be replicated. Seeing how people live differently is an experience that opens your worldview for the better. It is exciting that we are able to do it safely again,” said Angela Luedke. “The energy and collaboration that happens in classrooms, site visits and internships when abroad grants students the possibility of grappling with cognitive dissonance in a very immersive environment while unpacking the new things they are learning in that country.”

In the programs, students immerse themselves in the local culture and broaden their perspectives as they learn about business in a globalized economy.

Nebraska at Oxford: July 16-August 13

As the longest-running study abroad program at the university, Nebraska at Oxford began in 1988. During the four-week program students learn about economics and Shakespeare from prestigious faculty at University of Oxford Jesus College, established by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571.

CIMBA - Consortium of Universities for International Studies: May 23-June 17

The CIMBA program started in 1985 so students could stay and study a month in the town of Paderno del Grappa in northern Italy. Since joining the program, Nebraska has collaborated with the more than 35 partner universities, who collectively provide support and guidance for CIMBA. Students benefit from the most diverse selection of business course options in the programs offered at the College of Business and develop their leadership skills through company tours, cultural excursions and extended travel weekends.

Rwanda: Global Startup Communities: May 16-June 5

The newest study abroad opportunity offered through the College of Business, the Rwanda: Global Startup Communities program showcases the thriving entrepreneurship scene occurring in the eastern African country. Students spend three weeks visiting local cultural sites and exploring several businesses to gain insight into the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Rwanda.

Spain: IAU Summer in Barcelona: June 3-July 16; May 16-July 16; May 16-August 6

The Spain program brings students to Barcelona to explore the history, architecture and cuisine. Hosted at the Institute for American Universities, now called IAU College, students spend six weeks learning about Spanish culture, language and business practices and may also gain experience with a global company through an extended internship of six, nine or 12 weeks.
