Kathy's Point: Staying Strong Through Change at Nebraska Business

Dean Kathy Farrell shares the college's record enrollment with alumni and friends.

At a recent College of Business event, Nebraska Head Volleyball Coach Dani Busboom Kelly shared how in times of change, strength and adaptability make all the difference. Together, the Husker team continues to demonstrate key elements of change management as they stay focused on their goal of winning a banner and turn what some might see as uncertainty into opportunity.

This message resonates across the business world and in higher education. Despite campus budget cuts, our teams within the College of Business remain focused on what matters most to keep our college strong for today’s students and those who will follow.

That strength shows in many ways from our record enrollment of 4,398 students, including the largest incoming freshmen class in history and highest number of undergraduate students ever. Read about what students are saying here.

We also celebrated 45 Years of the School of Accounting. From its founding in 1979 to a notable 12% increase in undergraduate accounting majors this year, the school continues to prepare ethical, career-ready leaders who excel in a rapidly changing profession.

Our No. 1 ranked Best Value MBA also helps elevate careers. Craig Vacek demonstrated how further education can elevate careers far beyond traditional paths. Read how he went from dentistry to entrepreneurial efforts while earning his MBA.

These stories reflect what your engagement makes possible. From referring prospective students to visit campus and sharing your expertise with students or providing financial support to the college, it makes a difference.

If you feel inspired, I invite you to explore the following opportunities:

  1. Explore our support webpage to learn more about our priorities or make a gift.
  2. Come back to campus. I invite you to experience the excitement at our annual Nebraska Business Pre-Game Alumni Tailgate in Howard L. Hawks Hall on Saturday, November 1, three hours prior to kickoff for the Nebraska vs. UCLA football game. RSVP here.
  3. Refer a student.
  4. Attend this planned giving webinar. This special online session offered by the University of Nebraska Foundation invites alumni to learn more about planned giving and how it impacts the college and the university.

Thank you for being part of the Nebraska Business community. Together, we are building a future as bright as our students’ ambitions.

Go Big Red!
