Some people might think making an impact in the area of financial literacy by writing a fictional book about the money management habits of two golden retrievers is a little far-fetched – however, Dr. Melissa Griswold, ’96, made just such a connection in her new book Smart Bitch Dumb Dog released earlier this year. Griswold, who received her Ph.D. in business administration specializing in finance from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, returned to the College of Business this November to speak to both college and high school students at two events sponsored by the Nebraska Council on Economic Education. The new College of Business Huskers Shop opened its doors in Howard L. Hawks Hall and in doing so, started one of the most innovative business learning programs in the country. A joint effort with Nebraska Athletics, the College of Business and Fanatics, the Huskers Shop also includes a faculty advisor, a six-member student management board, students who work in the store and merchandise ranging from shirts and hats to the new plastic bags required in all Huskers athletic facilities to pom poms and fidget spinners. The faculty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration recently approved changes to the undergraduate curriculum. Beginning in the fall of 2017, BSAD 150, Business Computer Applications will change to BSAD 50, and the Business Analytics/Information Analysis (SCMA 350) course will include an additional one-credit hour lab, SCMA 350L. More than 900 business students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln were named to the College of Business Administration Dean’s List and Honor Roll for the fall semester of the 2016-17 academic year. The 901 undergraduates who received this honor maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.6 or higher for the semester. The college also recognized 222 undergraduate students for achieving a 4.0 GPA. Twenty-one master of business administration students qualified for the Dean’s List with a 4.0 GPA and nine or more credit hours for the semester, and 58 students with a 4.0 GPA and six or more credit hours made the Honor Roll. » Full Article

The 2016 Faculty and Staff Awards Reception for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration took place April 20 at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean, presented the awards to the eight award recipients.

UNL Team Captures First Place in ACG Cup Competition

University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration students won the Nebraska ACG Cup competition held April 14, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The annual financial case study competition pits competing teams from UNL, UNO, Creighton University and Bellevue University. The Nebraska chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) hosts the competition which gives students experience analyzing topics of mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advising and private equity. The ACG is a network of bankers, investors, attorneys, accountants and others who work in mergers and acquisitions.

Final Steel Beam at New CBA Building Celebrated

Friday marked a major milestone in the construction of the new College of Business Administration building at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as a Topping Off Steel Ceremony took place at the construction site at 14th and Vine streets. A topping off event is a building construction tradition that occurs when the last beam is placed atop a structure.
