Scholarship Types

College Scholarships

The College of Business awards scholarships to undergraduate business majors based on many criteria, including but not limited to financial need, academic merit, extracurricular involvement, and volunteer service. College-wide scholarships are awarded to the best-matched applicants based on the results of the current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Scholarship Application. For questions regarding this process, please refer to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid website.

Academic Major Scholarships

There are several College of Business academic major-specific scholarships awarded through the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Scholarship Application process. Some departments, however, have scholarships with a separate application and selection process. You will be notified of these opportunities throughout the year by the academic department of your major.

Additionally, some programs have scholarship opportunities, like the Certificate in Sales Excellence.

Business/Professional Scholarships

In addition to general scholarships offered by the College, businesses and professional organizations award scholarships to business students. You must complete the résumé portion of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Scholarship Application to be considered for most of these scholarships.

Other scholarships are periodically announced throughout the year by private organizations. Announcements for these scholarships are made via the College's Top Things to Know e-newsletter. Separate applications and deadlines may apply.

Study Abroad Scholarships

The College of Business has scholarships available specifically for study abroad experiences. Funding from the College of Business is awarded through the Global Experience Office’s MAPS Scholarship Application. To be considered for MAPS scholarships, students must complete a study abroad program application and scholarship form in VIA TRM on the Global Experiences website. All business students who apply for study abroad scholarships will be considered based on meeting individual scholarship qualifications, participating in a Nebraska-sponsored study abroad program, and having at least a 2.5 GPA.

  • Spring study abroad program scholarship deadline: October 1
  • Summer study abroad program scholarship deadline: February 15

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I know if I received a scholarship? All University of Nebraska-Lincoln scholarship recipients can confirm their scholarship awards by checking MyRED as early as mid-July. The College of Business will also notify you via your Huskers email account. For additional information, please visit the Husker Hub.
Is my scholarship renewable? Most scholarships are not renewable, and you will be notified if your scholarship is renewable. If you reapply annually through the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Scholarship Application and maintain at least a 3.7 cumulative GPA, then you will still receive funding, although the amount and the scholarship fund may be different.
How will I receive my award? Most scholarships are divided equally over two semesters—fall and spring. Exceptions are made for study abroad and some of the business/professional scholarships. With the exception of these, most scholarships require you to be enrolled full-time for BOTH semesters to receive your scholarship and award amounts will be adjusted if you graduate in December. Awards will appear on MyRED and be deducted from your student bill.
What happens to my scholarship if I change to part-time status? Donors specify that awards be made to full-time students. Your scholarship will be dropped if you change to part-time status. Students who take less than 12 credit hours in their graduating semester may be eligible to have their scholarship prorated in their final semester.
Can I receive the full amount of the scholarship if I am graduating in December? Donors specify full-time enrollment for almost all of our scholarships. December graduates will receive half of the yearly amount allocated.
What happens to my business scholarship if I declare a major outside of the College of Business? Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time as a College of Business student at the time of application and when the scholarship is paid.
Should I apply for College of Business scholarships if I have a lower GPA? Students are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships regardless of their GPA.

The College of Business will guarantee scholarship funding for all currently enrolled business students who meet the application and qualification requirements and have a 3.7 cumulative grade point average at the end of the spring semester.
What can I do? I forgot to apply for these scholarships. All available funding is used to make scholarship awards. If you forgot to apply, you can submit a letter of reason justifying your request for a scholarship and your resume to businessundergrad@unl.edu beginning August 1. Requests are reviewed monthly.
