James R. Schmidt is the James W. and Helen A. Hanson Professor of Economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his Ph.D. degree in economics from Rice University. Schmidt is a three-time recipient of the CBA Distinguished Teaching Award and has been recognized on multiple occasions by UNL’s Parents Association for his contributions to students.
Schmidt’s research interests include regional econometric methods, sub-state projections, applications of artificial instrumental variables, and the dynamics of blended learning environments. His teaching areas are business statistics and econometrics. He offers courses in blended, online, and traditional formats. Schmidt has served on the thesis and dissertation committees of over 100 graduate students from a wide variety of academic departments.
