Biography
Stephanie Smith (she/her/hers) is the social media and design coordinator for the Nebraska College of Business Communications, Marketing and External Relations team. She enjoys telling the multitude of stories of the great things the students, faculty, staff and programs are doing to innovate and improve business and society. She creates and manages content for the College of Business social media accounts as well as leads a social media team of interns and staff, writes articles, designs marketing and communications materials for print and web, collaborates with university partners as well as manages content displaying on the college's digital signs.
Before joining Nebraska Business in 2017 — just days before Howard L. Hawks Hall opened — she worked in newspaper editing, writing and page design, nonprofit communications and marketing, and in website and social media content management for news organizations around the nation and the world. Her employers included the Lincoln Journal Star in Nebraska, Rapid City Journal Media Group in South Dakota, Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers in Florida, and Stars and Stripes in Washington, D.C., Germany and Japan.
Raised in an Air Force family, she lived all over the United States and in Germany as a child. She graduated from Papillion LaVista High School in Papillion, Nebraska. She first studied at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D., then transferred to South Dakota State University, where she was the first in her family to earn a bachelor's degree: a B.A. in journalism with minors in German and sociology. All these changes ultimately prepared Stephanie for a career in the ever-changing area of social media.
