Biography
Marissa has been an Academic Advisor in the College of Business since 2018. She enjoys working with students as they explore their academic and personal interests throughout their college career along with guiding them on their path to graduation. One of her favorite aspects of advising is being able to work with students through difficult situations and see the growth they experience. Aside from general advising, Marissa also assists with transfer student communication and events as well as transfer credit.
Prior to joining Nebraska Business, Marissa was hard at work earning her Master’s Degree in Counseling in Student Affairs in Higher Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. When she began the program, she was intent on completing the Clinical Mental Health track of the degree to pursue a career in counseling on a college campus. However, as she neared the end of her intended track, she began to learn more about the field of Student Affairs. This brought her to the realization that she could still work with college students but in a capacity that would be a better fit for her, so she decided to switch tracks. During her final year in graduate school, she interned at both Southeast Community College and at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She appreciates the knowledge and skills she gained from both institutions, especially as she works with transfer students who are transitioning from community colleges.
Outside of work, Marissa can be found spending time with her husband (Jeff), son (Mason), fur-babies (Chloe and Cali), family, and friends. She also enjoys spending time outdoors (when it’s nice), singing/listening to music, and line dancing. As a former Scooters barista, she will tell you that the best drink on the menu isn’t coffee at all. It’s a peach/mango matcha smoothie!
