Biography
Kimberly Smith is the associate director for the Nebraska College of Business Communications, Marketing and External Relations team. Each day, she works to raise the visibility and stature of the college through marketing and content strategy. In her role, she also builds and helps execute overall and day-to-day internal and external communications strategies. Her work has been recognized with the College of Business Distinguished Service Award in 2017 and multiple College of Business Dean’s Coins. She and the CMER team also received several Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) VI awards for their efforts, and she also serves as a CASE District V judge for best practices in communications and marketing categories.
Before joining Nebraska Business in 2013, Smith worked in student affairs at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science and in accounting at Warrior Energy Services Corporation in Columbus, Mississippi. After obtaining her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2011, she moved to Chicago to work as a marketing and development assistant at the National Hellenic Museum, which shared the history of Greece and the Greek American experience. She developed marketing campaigns, created social media strategies, maintained its membership program and fostered external relations to promote the museum as they opened its new building.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007. For her contributions to Nebraska as an undergraduate, she received an honorary admiralship of the “Great Navy of the State of Nebraska” by Governor Dave Heineman. Her graduate capstone project featuring the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. in video podcasts earned the inaugural Gold MUSE Award in the Honeysett and Din category from the American Alliance of Museums. Smith is also a Gallup-certified CliftonStrengths coach.
