What Business Huskers Did This Summer
An unusual summer provided opportunities for College of Business students to learn, lead, win and launch.

Students at the College of Business at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln faced a summer unlike any other. Despite canceled internships, study abroad experiences and other original plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they created a new vision for their summer that featured personal and professional development.

"Our students had summer plans that would help them lead the future of business," said Dr. Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business. "They are resilient and sought out virtual internships, classes and other opportunities to use the time in a way that benefits them in the future. We're proud of our students for making this time matter."

One of the opportunities business students jumped into was the college's Summer Career Accelerator Program. Created by the Business Career Center and the Clifton Strengths Institute, the program helped students advance their career development and gain targeted skills and experiences through coaching sessions and an individualized action plan.

“I thought this would be a great opportunity for self-development that would lend itself well toward helping me secure an internship in the future. Networking, reading books on leadership, and improving my resume and LinkedIn profile are all things that I can do on my own, but they tend to be tasks that I put off," said Tori Pederson, accelerator participant and business minor pursuing opportunities in human resources. "Having this program held me accountable, as well as having a coach to help guide me, challenged me to do more. Networking was something I’d always said I would get around to, but this program pushed me to actually commit to it."
