Nebraska Offers Continuing Education for Tax Professionals
The Nebraska Tax Institute begins a statewide seven-city circuit this November to provide essential tax education for tax professionals.
Entering its 65th year of providing tax professionals across Nebraska, the Annual Federal and State Income Tax Institute begins its seven-city tour this November with the latest training in federal tax law. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Tax Institute, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service and the Nebraska Department of Revenue, delivers essential tax updates two-day continuing education sessions. Drawing in more than 1,200 tax professionals annually, attendees can expect to learn about critical updates on tax legislation, IRS changes and court rulings and more. Several industry experts will lead presentations during the sessions. The presenters include: Guido van der Hoeven, EA, chief editor of the Land Grant Agriculture book published yearly by the Land Grant University Tax Education Foundation; J’Nan L. Ensz, CPA; Kathy Prevo, tax specialist at Burch & Associates; Tina Barrett, EA, executive director of Nebraska Farm Business and program manager in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Nebraska; Steve Drzaic, Department of Revenue agent, and the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service. 

“This year’s presenters provide years of experience, in-depth knowledge and presentation styles that make complex tax issues easier to understand,” said Virginia Uzendoski, senior assistant director of programs for the institute. “Once again this year, attendees will leave feeling comfortable and confident in their knowledge for tax season.”

Along with the on-site training, attendants can also earn up to 16 hours of continuing education credits, including two hours of ethics credit. As an accredited IRS Continuing Education (Provider #NQ6J1), the Nebraska Tax Institute meets the requirements of 31 Code of Federal Regulations, section 10.6(g), covering maintenance of attendance records, retention of program outlines, qualifications of instructors and length of class hours.

Dates and locations for the institute, which run from 7 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. local time daily, include:
  • November 4-5: Scottsbluff, Nebraska
  • November 7-8: North Platte, Nebraska
  • November 11-12: Kearney, Nebraska
  • November 14-15: Grand Island, Nebraska
  • November 18-19: Norfolk, Nebraska
  • December 9-10: Lincoln, Nebraska
  • December 16-17: Omaha, Nebraska
 
Housed in the Center for Executive and Professional Development at the College of Business, the institute fulfills the continuing education requirements for Certified Public Accountants (CPA), IRS Enrolled Agents (EA), PTIN holders and AFSP, Certified Financial Planners (CFP), attorneys, tax return preparers, Nebraska Department of Insurance and other licensing agencies. The institute is an accredited continuing education provider with the Nebraska Supreme Court MCLE Commission and an IRS Continuing Education Provider (Provider #NQ6J1).
