Eight Students Earn Certificates for Career Readiness

The College of Business Career Center hosted a celebration April 21 for eight University of Nebraska–Lincoln students who completed the Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) program. The program is a 10-week, intensive career preparation program designed to assist international sophomore and junior business students in finding internships or full-time employment in the United States as well as connect students to applicable campus and community resources.

“I loved watching the students network with each other and with our guest speakers,” said Jayde McWilliams, who led the program as part of her graduate assistantship for the Business Career Center. “They all learned so much and specifically learned how to make a good first impression. The students were able to start building more connections on campus while learning about the resources they can take advantage of.”

Each CRC student made these campus and community connections with the help of an American conversation partner, who is a fellow business student.

"My partner is the sweetest conversation partner anyone could hope they can get and we plan to continue to meet," said ChaBoon Tan, a junior international business and marketing major from Malaysia. "I have never felt more engaged and welcomed, and definitely plan to tell other international students who could benefit from this program to take this opportunity."

In addition to meeting with a conversation partner, students attended group career development workshops, one-on-one career coaching and more.

Eric Xu, a junior finance major from China, said, "The CRC program was incredibly helpful to me. I learned a lot of useful information to help me with my future, but most of all, I enjoy the friendships I've made with Jayde and other students. We got to know each other and spent a lot of time together including volunteering in the University's Big Event."

The certificate program's cohort included:
Xiaowei Yang, junior finance major, Hangzhou, China
Ge (Grace) Chai, junior finance and math major, Kunming, China
Shumin Luo, sophomore finance major, Chengdu, China
Borui (Eric) Xu, junior finance major, Whenzhou, China

Yuchao Song, sophomore international business major, Zhaoqing, China
