Career Fair at Pinnacle Bank Arena Sets Record Attendance

The Pinnacle Bank Arena served as the site for the largest Business, Service, Government and Liberal Arts Career Fair to date. Career Services at CBA partnered with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Career Services to bring nearly 150 prospective employers, a 28 percent increase from last year, in front of College of Business Administration students in one central location.

The planning committee feared the distance from campus would prevent students from attending, but free parking near the arena and shuttles to and from the event brought 1,400 students to the career fair. This set a new attendance record with a 49 percent increase compared to the 2014 event. The change in venue also created more demand from employers, and beyond the 150 in attendance, many more were on a wait list and hope to be present at future events.

Career Fair participants learn about new jobs
Career Coach Sarah Barg said, “The Arena makes so much more of a ‘wow!’ factor. There was more space to roam from booth to booth, and the larger area swallowed the sound of chatter, so students and employers could hear each other better. The employers and students were very impressed by the new organization of the event.”

CBA majors enrolled in freshman, junior and senior professional enhancement courses– BSAD 111, 333 and 444 – are required to attend one of the career fairs throughout the semester to explore career options and meet with potential future employers. Students prepared to meet with these business professionals and learned how to best create a résumé.

“Employers told us our students they met at the fair are better, more prepared and more professional than those at other universities,” said Barg. “We believe the professional enhancement courses have helped create polished and confident individuals for lifelong career success.”
