Dean Kathy Farrell connects with students at the 2019 Back to School Bash. The event provides a fun atmosphere for students to engage with alumni, faculty, staff and business partners.

“The Back to School Bash allows us to welcome new students, celebrate our Nebraska Business community and provide an opportunity for students to start building connections right away. The event also allows them to familiarize themselves with the extensive student services and resources available throughout the college,” said Dr. Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business.

While enjoying UNL Dairy Store ice cream, carnival-style games, music and giveaways in the Henrickson Family Atrium, students can register for prizes, including Nebraska Business swag and complimentary lunch on the Kelly and Virginia Holthus Terrace in the Dean's Suite, which includes a third-story view of Memorial Stadium. Additionally, students can learn about the 25 business student organizations available for them to join to customize their college experience.

“We want everyone in the College of Business community to feel included from day one. Students will be welcomed by our alumni, faculty, staff and business partners in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Parents of our students are also invited. Student leaders from our recognized student organizations will be at the event to share how to get involved,” said Sheri Irwin-Gish, executive director of Communications, Marketing and External Relations. “Last year, connecting with others looked very different. However, this year the welcoming energy and enthusiasm shared at the bash will help all of us kick off the academic year with momentum.”

Connections from a previous Back to School Bash helped launch a career for Angelica Morrow, ’18, of Grand Island, Nebraska. After winning a complimentary lunch with the dean in a bash drawing, she sought out opportunities to get involved and challenge herself.

“Through my involvement in the college, I found a great career. It all started when I made the decision to go to the Back to School Bash my freshman year. Don’t wait to make connections. There are so many opportunities at Nebraska Business, you just have to take advantage of them,” she said.
