With the spring semester in session, a new class of College of Business students prepare to take on “Strive to Thrive Lincoln”. Leading People ad Project (MNGT 411), gives students the opportunity to collaborate and work alongside local nonprofit organizations in Lincoln and truly understand the meaning of philanthropy and community involvement. From an amazing partnership with Rhonda Seacrest, her generosity allows the class to donate two $5,000 grants to two local nonprofits. This course offers a hands-on experience as students learn to serve their communities. » Full Article

Cary Dean “Bud” Thorp Jr., 86, associate professor of management (emeritus), died July 11 surrounded by his family.

He was a member of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty for 33 years. He became a celebrated educator and respected scholar in human resource management. He earned the College of Business Distinguished Teaching Award in 1981. He taught generations of Huskers and served as an advisor for the student organization Society for Human Resource Management before retiring in 2003. Thorp was honored by the Lincoln Human Resource Management Association with their honorary life membership. » Full Article

The senior-level class, Leading People and Projects (MGMT 411), provides a semester-long project for business students called Strive to Thrive Lincoln, helping them gain knowledge of philanthropy in the Lincoln community. Students receive hands-on experience focusing on what it takes to manage a grant proposal process which ultimately awards $10,000 to local non-profits made possible through a gift by Rhonda Seacrest. Students also volunteer their service on outreach projects. As part of the class team structure, the social media team is updating the Strive to Thrive Lincoln student blog. Students will compose regular updates outlining their experiences from week-to-week as they go through the grant proposal process. » Full Article

Huskers junior relief pitcher Robbie Palkert’s worst fear came true early in the 2018 season. After leaving a game with elbow soreness, he heard the words no pitcher wants to from a doctor – Tommy John, the first pitcher to undergo elbow reconstruction surgery and resume his career. Tommy John is also the name for the operation where a ligament in the medial elbow is replaced with a tendon from elsewhere in the body. A 12-month process, it requires weeks of arm debilitation followed by months of rehab. » Full Article
