Business Students Win National STAFDA Competition

University of Nebraska–Lincoln business students won first place in the inaugural supply chain competition hosted at the Specialty Tool and Fastener Distributor Association (STAFDA) conference in San Diego. Obesity, a major health concern in the United States, has driven some consumers to become more health conscious and led to several public policy interventions affecting consumer trends, the food supply and marketing. The new College of Business Huskers Shop opened its doors in Howard L. Hawks Hall and in doing so, started one of the most innovative business learning programs in the country. A joint effort with Nebraska Athletics, the College of Business and Fanatics, the Huskers Shop also includes a faculty advisor, a six-member student management board, students who work in the store and merchandise ranging from shirts and hats to the new plastic bags required in all Huskers athletic facilities to pom poms and fidget spinners. Marin Olson, a junior marketing major from Julesburg, Colorado, is studying abroad June 11-July 7 in Italy as part of the College of Business Global Immersion program Italy: Analyzing Supply Chain Management Around the Amalfi Coast. She and her classmates will learn about the supply chain management systems in both Italian and multinational companies, tour Italian businesses such as an olive oil factory, go on excursions to places like Pompeii and more during the four-week trip. She looks forward to experiencing a different culture, taking herself out of her comfort zone and seeing the world outside of Colorado and Nebraska. After the program, she plans to meet her brother and cousin in Florence and from there, explore more northern parts of Italy and possibly make a trip to Croatia. » Full Article

The faculty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration recently approved changes to the undergraduate curriculum. Beginning in the fall of 2017, BSAD 150, Business Computer Applications will change to BSAD 50, and the Business Analytics/Information Analysis (SCMA 350) course will include an additional one-credit hour lab, SCMA 350L. BSAD 50 will provide more flexibility for students to complete the requirement in an online format, and SCMA 350/350L was updated to ensure students are best prepared for the demands of the business environment. » Full Article

Adam Zahradnik left the Czech Republic in 2012 to study at the College of Business Administration on a Paul Robitschek Scholarship. Through connections he made at the college, he returned home in January with an internship at Hewlett Packard.

Through Dr. Demet Batur, assistant professor of supply chain management, he was introduced to Rob Winans at a CBA advisory board meeting. Winans, a 1997 marketing graduate and director of enterprise group and global chain transformation at Hewlett Packard, was impressed by him. » Full Article

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration jumped 21 spots to No. 51 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of undergraduate business programs. There were 429 schools listed in the latest rankings based on an assessment survey conducted in the spring of 2014. U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty at each undergraduate business program accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and asked them to rate the overall quality of the undergraduate business program at each university. » Full Article
