BSAD 395 - Professional Internship
(Undergraduate Students)
Turn your internship into an opportunity to earn 0-3 credit hours while learning about business theories, principles and practices utilized in your major field of study. By registering for Professional Internship (BSAD 395), you will reflect on what you learn in the classroom and apply it directly in a professional business setting through an approved internship. You’ll work with an academic advisor, internship coordinator, a sponsoring faculty member and your internship employer supervisor to complete the course.
What types of experiences can be considered as an internship?
The internship must meet certain standards and expectations. BSAD 395 uses the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) definition of “ internship. ”
Credit hours for the internship are based around the quality of academic assignments submitted about the internship. Students cannot earn internship credit for their current job but can earn internship credit for an experience in a new area at their current organization if it relates to their undergraduate academic studies. Regardless of the academic credit awarded for the internship (0, 1, 2 or 3 credit hours), all internships must involve at least 150 hours of work.
What are the Steps to Enroll in the Course?
1. Meet with an academic advisor.
Meet with an academic advisor in the Business Advising and Student Engagement office to discuss if/how BSAD 395 will count toward your degree.
BSAD 395 can be taken for 0, 1, 2, or 3 credit hours.
BSAD 395 is cross-listed as ACCT, ACTS, ECON, ENTR, FINA, MNGT, and SCMA.
For students selecting the 1-3 credit option, the default grade option is Pass/No Pass. Graded credit can be awarded only with the permission of the sponsoring faculty member and department chair. For students selecting 0 credit hours, the grade option is Pass/No Pass only.
Students interested in MRKT 395 should contact the Department of Marketing by sending an email to marketing@unl.edu.
In your email, include where the internship is, the duration of the internship, the internship description, and responsibilities.
The department will follow up with you about faculty sponsorship, academic credit contract, and registration information.
The prerequisite for MRKT 395 is MRKT 341 and is offered only as Pass/No Pass.
2. Complete the BSAD 395 Interest Form.
Complete the BSAD 395 Interest Form . A permission code will be emailed to you.
3. Complete the required pre-internship tasks.
Once you enroll, you will see further instructions to:
- Submit a copy of your internship description or create an internship proposal.
- Contact the appropriate faculty/staff member to complete the Academic Credit Contract.
- Contact your internship employer supervisor to complete the Memorandum of Understanding.
Although you have the permission code, you are not officially in the course until you complete all pre-internship requirements.
What Assignments are Required for the Course?
- Complete a final paper or presentation as determined in the meeting with your faculty member.
- Update your resume with your internship added and upload the revised resume.
- Receive an evaluation from your internship employer supervisor and submit.
- Complete a self-evaluation and submit.
How Will Participation in BSAD 395 Help Me?
- Transcription of the internship onto your academic record.
- Credit toward graduation (if selecting the 1-3 section).
- Opportunity to collaborate with a faculty member.
- Deeper processing of the internship experience and how it relates to academic content and future career goals.

| STEP 7 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ONLY. Complete the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) packet and have the CPT forms signed by a BASE academic advisor.
