The Nebraska team of Dermot Pogson, Jocelyn O'Grady, Logan Walsh and Ruby Lenzen won second place at the CUIBE International Business Case Competition in San Diego, California.
Jordan Westenbroek, senior Clifton Builders management major, was named Student of the Month for September.

Nebraska Business Honors Academy seniors Kaylee Campbell, Braden Starck, Avery Plessel and Sophie Thomas led and coordinated the second annual Cornhusker Case Competition.

Honors and Awards
- The Inclusive Business Leaders program won an award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The program won the Best of CASE District VI Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives. See the "Best of District VI Awards Gallery" here.
- The Nebraska Business Student Advisory Board named Jordan Westenbroek, senior Clifton Builders management major from Longmont, Colorado, the college's Student of the Month for September. Read the Facebook feature.
Research and Publications
- Five business faculty were named to the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List of the world's most influential researchers in 2024: Fred Luthans, George Holmes Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Management, Janet Near, professor emeritus of management, Jonathan O'Brien, David Olson, James & H.K. - Edward Balistreri's research with the university's Yeutter Institute was published in October and discussed how much the economy would suffer under a global trade war and tariffs on imports called "Waging a Global Trade War Alone: The Cost of Blanket Tariffs on Friend and Foe" in the Yeutter Institute International Trade Policy Review. - Two business undergraduate students were chosen for the university's First-Year Research Experience Program including Mason Chandler, economics major from Lincoln, Nebraska: “Data Visualization Effectiveness (Past and Present)”; and Eh Ta Taw, finance major from Lincoln, “Refugees in Nebraska and the Great Plains.” Read the Nebraska Today story.
Notable Involvement
- The Ameritas Emerging Leaders Academy launched its inaugural cohort with 17 Huskers in September. Funded through a grant from Ameritas, the seven-month experiential learning program aims to equip advanced undergraduate students with essential skills to succeed in today’s fast-changing global environment. - Eight freshmen are exploring entrepreneurship within themselves, on campus and in the community this year as part of the Entrepreneurship Catalysts program. They include: Jordan Aschoff, psychology major from Norfolk, Nebraska; Jack Beals, business administration major from Omaha, Nebraska; Gavin Dunlap, finance major from Milford, Nebraska; Andreas Katsaounis, business administration major from Waterloo, Nebraska; Sammy Kendeigh, management major from Omaha; Avery Lockridge, management major from Walton, Nebraska; Thomas Subiabre, construction management major from Lincoln; and Aiden Zimmerman, finance major from Rising City, Nebraska. - More than 30 students began the Investors With Purpose program this fall. Now in its fifth year, the program enables high-achieving students interested in finance and related fields to gain real-world insight and build a network of professionals in the financial industry. Read the story.
- The Business Career Center took a group of business students to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, over fall break for a career expedition. The students visited employers in the city including Fiserv, Northwestern Mutual, PwC, Milwaukee Tool/Techronic Industries and Baird. They also received a personal tour of the hockey arena where the Milwaukee Admirals play and networked with professionals and alumni. Participants included: Abdalhamid S. Abdalhamid, sophomore business administration major from Omaha; Angela Genner, junior marketing major from Muskego, Wisconsin; A.J. Hill, senior finance major from Liberty, Missouri; Cooper Longley, sophomore accounting and finance major from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Natasha Maina, senior economics major from Nairobi, Kenya; Brett Pirak, junior accounting and finance major from Gayville, South Dakota; Lanie Szatmary, senior management major from Libertyville, Illinois; and Laura Madeline Wiseman, MBA student from Des Moines, Iowa.
Competitions
- Nebraska won second place at the prestigious CUIBE International Business Case Competition in San Diego, California, in October. Ruby Lenzen, accounting major from Burnsville, Minnesota; Dermot Pogson, marketing major from York, Pennsylvania; Jocelyn O'Grady, management major from Falls City, Nebraska; and Logan Walsh, international business major from Thornton, Colorado, were selected based on their exceptional work in the Global Issues course (BSAD 320) in the spring semester. Walsh, president of the International Business Club, joined the team for the national competition, and Richard Fishler, academic advisor and international business coordinator, accompanied them.
- Four Nebraska Business Honors Academy seniors led and coordinated the second annual Cornhusker Business Case Competition. Fourteen teams from across the country competed Oct. 24-25. The planning committee was Kaylee Campbell, junior actuarial science major from Tracy, Minnesota; Braden Starck, senior finance and management major from Edwardsville, Illinois; Avery Plessel, senior marketing major from Beatrice, Nebraska; and Sophie Thomas, senior marketing and management major from Lakeville, Minnesota. Dein Professor of Accountancy and associate professor of accountancy, is one of the authors of the article "How to be a boss at giving performance reviews" in The Conversation, an online publication of informative articles for the public written by academic experts and edited by journalists. - Scott Swenseth, faculty director of Business Graduate Programs and associate professor of supply chain management and analytics, spoke to WOWT about the dock worker strike. See the report.
- Erin Burnette and Rebekah Neary-DeLaPorte were invited by senior supply chain management major Natalie Karrels from Brookfield, Wisconsin, to ride on a U.S. Army Chinook helicopter during an initiative that allowed faculty and staff to watch a training exercise to learn more about the ROTC student experience.
