Balistreri, McDaniel to Host Virtual Trade Seminar on Tariffs Dec. 11
Edward Balistreri, Duane Acklie Chair and professor of economics, and Christine McDaniel, Mercatus Center Senior Research Fellow, will share insights on the economic and sectoral impacts of tariffs during the Virtual Intensive Trade Seminar on Dec. 11.

The Clayton Yeutter Institute for International Trade and Finance is partnering with the Washington International Trade Association (WITA) to hold a virtual seminar on tariffs on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 8 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. CST via Zoom. This event is a special edition of WITA’s Virtual Intensive Trade Seminar series to discuss legal avenues for President-elect Trump’s promise of 60% tariff on goods from China and a 20% tariff on everything else the United States imports, and the possible impact on farmers, consumers and firms.

Edward Balistreri, Duane Acklie Chair and professor of economics, will speak on the “Sectoral Impacts: What it May Mean for Farmers, Consumers, and Firms” panel, and will discuss how these tariffs may impact different agricultural sectors and what it may mean for farmers in Nebraska.

Christine McDaniel, non-resident fellow of the Yeutter Institute and senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center, will speak on the “Making the Case: Tariffs and the Economic Impacts” panel and focus on the wider economic impacts these tariffs will have on the U.S.

UNL students can register for free using their student email address. UNL colleagues can register for the seminar at the member rate by using the promo code “UNL.” Nebraska state government officials can also register for free using their official government email address.

Registration for the Tariff Intensive Trade Seminar is open to the public and all sessions are off-the-record/Chatham House Rules.
