College of Business faculty, students and staff continue to excel in fulfilling the college's mission to drive discovery, create opportunity and empower individuals to lead the future of business.

Learn more about recent honors, appointments and publications at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business in this month’s achievements column. The achievements of faculty, staff and students are grouped within the college’s three mission-focused goals of research + discovery, learning + transformation and connection + engagement.

Research + Discovery

  • New research by Dr. Andre Maciel, assistant professor of marketing, suggests that for some women, knitting is a quiet way to make a statement. KOLN/KGIN aired a June 11 story on the research.
  • Dr. Jennifer Ryan, Ryan and Carol Cope Professor of Supply Chain Management and department chair, was interviewed for a June 7 KOLN/KGIN story on shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She noted that manufacturing facilities can’t just reopen on a whim; they must plan, hire workers and obtain materials. “We knew it would take a while to get these things back up and running, but what we didn’t know was how quickly that would have to happen,” she said.   • A new University of Nebraska–Lincoln study shows that if Nebraska expanded the dairy industry across the entire supply chain, it could have an economic impact of up to $1.7 billion. Dr. Eric Thompson, K.H. Nelson Professor of Economics and director of the Bureau of Business Research, discussed the study during a June 16 segment on RFD-TV.

Learning + Transformation

  • More than 1,400 College of Business students earned Dean’s List recognition for academic excellence in the spring semester. Read the story.
  • Forty first-year students representing nine states join the Nebraska Business Honors Academy in August. They will complete most of their core and foundation business curriculum together focused on developing critical thinking, technical and communication skills. Read the story.
  • Eleven business faculty and staff comprised the inaugural cohort of the Diversity and Inclusion Ambassador Certificate program by the Center for Executive and Professional Development. The interactive program featured guest speakers and faculty from throughout the university to help foster an inclusive environment and prepare participants to be champions of diversity and cultural awareness in the college community. Ambassadors include: Sheri Irwin-Gish, executive director of Communications, Marketing and External Relations; Jayme Hahn, assistant director of web services; Dr. Kasey Linde, associate director of the Teaching and Learning Center; Dr. Tawnya Means, assistant dean and director of the Teaching and Learning Center; Dr. Brett Neely, assistant professor of management; Jennifer Mostek, J.D., director of Business Advising and Student Engagement; Mikki Sandin, international business and inclusion coordinator; Kimberly Smith, associate director of Communications, Marketing and External Relations; Stephanie Smith, social media and design coordinator; Dr. Troy Smith, assistant professor of management; and Garrett Stolz, writing and photography coordinator.
  • MBA@Nebraska May graduates Galina Brukman of Cliffside, New Jersey, and Jessica Rustad of Lincoln, Nebraska, were named among the Online MBA Best and Brightest Class of 2021 by Poets&Quants. Read the story.

Connection + Engagement

  • The Nebraska Council on Economic Education received the 2021 Outstanding Business Partnership Award for Nebraska Career and Technical Education by the Nebraska Department of Education. This award recognizes a business or partnership group that has made significant contributions to the success of career education at a statewide level.
  • Morgan Holen, first-year MBA@Nebraska student from Omaha, was chosen to represent the state as 2021 Miss Nebraska. As a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, her platform includes strengths-based mentoring. Read the North Platte Telegraph
