Strengths Look Good on You

Designed by Students, for Students

The Student Strengths Leadership Summit is a one-day, strengths-based leadership experience for students who want to better understand how to lead using their CliftonStrengths in real, everyday contexts.

Open to students of all majors and levels of involvement, the summit focuses on practical ways to apply strengths in classes, student organizations, campus jobs and future careers.

The event is free, and lunch at Cather Dining Hall will be provided.

What to Expect

Participants will take part in interactive, student-led sessions that emphasize reflection, discussion and real-world application.

 Session topics include:

  • Increasing student well-being and engagement
  • Applying strengths in student organizations
  • Coaching peers to develop their strengths
  • Leveraging strengths in internships and career development
  • Utilizing your strengths after graduation

What You'll Do

During the summit, participants will:

  • Build a strengths-based peer network
  • Identify strengths-based tools to increase engagement in classes or student organizations
  • Share stories of strengths in action
  • Exchange ideas for fostering strengths-based leadership with other college campuses, including Colorado State University, Kansas State University, Midland University, University of Nebraska at Kearney and University of Nebraska at Omaha

Registrants can sign up for a limited number of one-on-one peer coaching sessions to develop and apply their strengths.

What You'll Gain

By the end of the day, participants will strengthen key leadership skill sets, including:

  • Acknowledging multiple perspectives
  • Resiliency

Participants will leave with practical strategies they can immediately apply in daily life. You will gain confidence in leveraging your strengths to support your personal well-being and learn how to articulate your strengths in resumes, interviews and career conversations.

  • From Classroom to Real Life: Using Your Strengths Beyond College | Ellie Schaardt & Carolina Barazza (Room HLH 211)
    • Your CliftonStrengths aren’t just for school or your first job, they shape how you show up in every area of life. Learn how to apply your strengths in your career, daily decisions, and relationships after graduation.

  • Fill Your Bucket, Fuel Your Strengths | Alyson Price & Sydney Beck (Room HLH 223)
    • When we take the time to invest in ourselves, we’re better equipped to show up for others. Join us for a 30-minute seminar focused on ‘filling your bucket’, prioritizing the habits, mindsets, and daily actions that fuel your energy and well-being.

  • Introduction to Strengths | Audrey Frohloff & Tenley Kozal (Room HLH 229)
    • What if you focused on what’s right with you instead of what’s wrong? In this session, you’ll get an introduction to CliftonStrengths and discover how your natural talents can help you work smarter, build stronger relationships, and show up more confidently.

  • Working Better Together: Teamwork Through a Strengths Lens | Ally Nigrila & Ashton Huls (Room HLH 211)
    • This session will focus on group dynamics and how to effectively use your strengths in team settings.

  • Own Your Strengths: Using CliftonStrengths to Stand Out in Interviews | Isaac Lagman & Fred Hausman (Room HLH 223)
    • This session will cover how to use your CliftonStrengths in an interview to confidently answer the question “What are your strengths?” and stand out to the interviewer or hiring team.

  • Refuel and Recharge: A Strengths Approach to Preventing Burnout through Understanding Your Energy | David Webb, Abby Vanderford, and Isaiah Faerber K-State Group (Room HLH 229)
    • What if your strengths could help prevent burnout? In this session, you’ll explore what fuels and drains your energy, uncover hidden sources of burnout, and learn how overusing your top strengths can hold you back. Through reflection and discussion, you’ll gain practical strategies to refuel and build resilience for sustainable well-being.

    • Learn how to harness your Clifton Strengths to accomplish the “Big 6” college experiences and translate this expertise into future academic and professional endeavors.

  • The Follower-First Leader: Building Trust through Transparency | Emersyn Liljehorn & Sammy Kendeigh (Room HLH 223)
    • This session explores how leaders can build trust and foster stronger relationships through transparency and authenticity. By connecting the four core needs of followers with a strengths-based approach, participants will learn practical strategies to better support, engage, and lead their teams with confidence and clarity.

  • Strengths and Goal Setting | Niurka Castro & Annabelle Roubal (Room HLH 229)
    • This session focuses on growing as a leader through intentional goal setting. You’ll learn how to identify, own, and direct your strengths by naming, claiming, and aiming them toward both short-term and long-term goals. The session also guides you through practical steps you can apply in your student life and carry with you beyond it.

  • The Dual Nature of Strengths: Help and Hinder | Preston Gordman & Ellen Magnusson (Room HLH 111)
    • Participants will learn how their strengths can help and hinder them, and how to recognize when this is happening. This session explores how this can show up in students’ social interactions, school, and everything in between.

  • Show Up With Your Strengths | Natalie Moore & Elayne Price (Room HLH 211)
    • You can’t pour from an empty cup, but you don’t have to be full to lead. In this session, we’ll check in on where you are across all areas of well-being, explore how CifttonStrengths show up in the highs and hard seasons, and discover what it means to lead well.

  • Using Strengths in Internships and Jobs | Makayla Larntz & Josie Golka (Room HLH 223)
    • Learn how to apply your Strengths to your career, from applications to succeeding in jobs and internships! This workshop will teach you how to be the most successful professional in your career by applying what you do naturally best.

  • Why Don’t I Have… Exploring and Developing Your Themes | Suzette Navarro and Cece Jowdy K-State Group (Room HLH 229)
    • What if you explored strengths beyond your usual Top 5? In this session, you’ll choose a new set of strengths you feel drawn to and discover how they show up in your life through interactive activities. You’ll compare them to your actual Top 5, gaining deeper self-awareness of who you are today and who you’re becoming.
