Graduates Prepare to Take the Stage at Commencement

323 Business Huskers Set to Receive Diplomas
Graduates Prepare to Take the Stage at Commencement
More than 1,300 students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln earn their degrees this weekend at commencement ceremonies held at Pinnacle Bank Arena, December 17-18. Delivering the commencement addresses are Shane Farritor, Lederer Professor of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Nebraska, for undergraduate students, and Sarah Gervais, Susan J. Rosowski Professor of psychology at Nebraska, for graduate students and professional degree earners.

For students like Delaney Stienblock, a senior finance major, graduation goes beyond a cap and gown. As she crosses the stage at Pinnacle Bank Arena this December, alongside more than 300 other Nebraska Business students, Stienblock knows she made her time at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln matter.

“Graduating from Nebraska is something I am so proud of. I feel so grateful to have attended a Big Ten Institution and experienced the atmosphere and support of being a Husker,” said the Papillion, Nebraska, native.

The commencement ceremony for graduate and professional degree students takes place at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Friday, December 17, at 3 p.m., with Sarah Gervais, Susan J. Rosowski Professor of psychology at Nebraska, delivering the commencement address. For undergraduate students, the ceremony is also held at the arena Saturday, December 18 beginning at 9 a.m., with Shane Farritor, Lederer Professor of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Nebraska, speaking for the undergraduate commencement address.

As a student ambassador for the College of Business, Stienblock met many new people as she shared her experiences at Howard L. Hawks Hall with high school students looking at the possibility of attending Nebraska. She not only expanded her network, but also gained a mentor from the role.

“Being a student ambassador for the College of Business allowed me to form so many connections throughout the university and gain a mentor in my enrollment manager, Kendra Ritchie, associate director of recruitment,” Stienblock said. “I am so grateful to have had someone like her to guide me through my college career and been a part of such an important organization that impacts so many high school students trying to make their college decision.”

Just as Stienblock has much to celebrate about commencement, so do all graduating Nebraska Business student-athletes. This commencement celebrates Husker student-athletes, for their 95% graduation success rate this year, the 11th straight year Nebraska improved its rate, tying for third among Big Ten institutions.

With plans to travel abroad in Europe following graduation, Stienblock will begin a career with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as a financial institution specialist. With so many experiences and connections made at Nebraska, she prepares to proudly hold the title of Nebraska alum.

“The best thing about being a Husker is the constant support I feel and the positive energy on campus. Graduating from Nebraska means I have the world at my fingertips and so many amazing future opportunities from my experience here,” said Stienblock, who also plans to continue her education through Nebraska’s Master of Science in Business Analytics program.

Both ceremonies will be available to watch online at the commencement website, as well as broadcast live on Spectrum channel 1303, Allo channel 23 and Kinetic channel 1080. For more information about the event or to watch it live, visit: https://commencement.unl.edu.
