Research + Discovery
  • The University of Nebraska–Lincoln ranks No. 8 in the world and No. 5 in North America in its latest University of Nebraska–Lincoln Global Research Rankings of Actuarial Science and Risk Management & Insurance™ released by the College of Business. Yijia Lin, V.J. Skutt Distinguished Professor and professor of finance, led the development of the first-of-its-kind ranking and compiled the rankings database with faculty, staff and students at Nebraska. Privately funded by Ameritas, a nationwide leader in insurance and financial strategies with headquarters in Lincoln, the ranking first debuted in 2019. Read the story.
  • Eric Thompson, department chair, K.H. Nelson College Professor of Economics and director of Bureau of Business Research, spoke to Nebraska Public Media about the governor's goal to reduce property taxes in Nebraska. Read or listen to the story.
Learning + Transformation
  • The College of Business named 1,205 students to its Dean’s List for the spring semester, including 1,127 business undergraduates and 78 graduate students. Read the story.
  • Jeff Cavanaugh, Ph.D. candidate in management, was honored with an Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award during the university's annual Graduate Fellowship and Awards Luncheon, which celebrates achievements in research, teaching, mentorship and creative activity. Read the story.
  • Timothy Hodges, executive director of the Clifton Strengths Institute and assistant professor of practice in management, appeared on PositivityMatters.org's podcast, which features "conversations with scholars, organization leaders, and community builders focused on well-being, positive psychology, mental health and human flourishing."   • The Center for Entrepreneurship announced a new hands-on advanced franchise course partnership with Scooter's Coffee® that will launch in spring 2025. Read the story.
Connection + Engagement
  • Gretchen Holland, KPMG Summer 2025 audit intern and junior accounting and finance major from Bloomington, Minnesota, was one of 100 interns selected out of 3,000 hires to partake in the firm’s Global Advantage Program in Prague, Czech Republic, in June. Selection criteria included interview performance and overall standing as candidates.
  • Luke McDermott, a senior majoring in economics, political science and history from Omaha, Nebraska, is one of 20 students selected as a Key into Public Service Scholar by The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s most prestigious academic honor society and a leading national advocate for the value of a liberal arts and sciences education. Chosen from over 700 applicants attending Phi Beta Kappa chapter institutions across the nation, each 2024 scholar will receive a $5,000 undergraduate scholarship and will participate in an educational conference held in Washington, D.C.   • Caitlin Smith, academic advisor in Business Advising and Student Engagement, was appointed to the Collective Impact Planning Committee for the university conference hosted by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
  • The Nebraska Business Honors Academy awarded three business students "blackshirts" at its 2024 spring Academy Awards ceremony. The recipients are peer-nominated and demonstrate one of the five guiding principles of the college. Be Inclusive: Tessa Mozingo, senior marketing major from Olathe, Kansas; Make It Matter: John Trilling, junior economics and finance major from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; and Make It Matter: Grace Schaefer, sophomore supply chain management major from Papillion, Nebraska.
  • Husker student-athletes received Academic All Big Ten Honors for the spring 2024 semester including: Baseball: Garrett Anglim, senior management major from La Vista, Nebraska; Jackson Brockett, junior management major from Omaha, Nebraska; Cayden Brumbaugh, sophomore management major from Edmond, Oklahoma; Dylan Carey, sophomore business administration major from Castle Rock, Colorado; Josh Caron, junior management major from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Hayden Lewis, junior management major from Yutan, Nebraska; Gabe Swansen, junior management major from Johnston, Iowa; and Will Walsh, senior management major from Leawood, Kansas. Golf: Brooke Bream, senior economics major from Phoenix, Ariz.; Sydney Harz, sophomore business administration major from Frieburg, Germany; Lena Hassert, senior business administration major from Kreuzau, Germany; Kelli Ann Strand, sophomore accounting major from Challis, Idaho; and Andrea Velez, senior finance major from Pereira, Colombia. Softball: Katelyn Caneda, sophomore business administration major from Cerritos, California; Sydney Gray, senior finance major from Tucson, Arizona; McKinley Malecha, junior management and marketing major from Lakeville, Minnesota; Ashley Smetter, sophomore management major from Lincoln, Nebraska; Abbie Squier, senior finance major from Lincoln, Nebraska; and Talia Tokheim, sophomore marketing major from San Carlos, California.
