UNL College of Business Administration Maintains Prestigious AACSB Accreditation

The College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) has maintained its business and accounting accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

Only 607 schools of business -- less than 5% of worldwide -- have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in business accreditation. Of those schools, only 175 have earned specialized accreditation for their accounting programs. To realize accounting accreditation an institution must first earn or maintain AACSB International business accreditation, which requires an institution to undergo a meticulous internal review and evaluation process. In addition to developing and implementing a mission-driven plan to satisfy the 21 business quality standards, accounting accreditation requires the satisfaction of an additional set of 15 standards that are specific to the discipline and profession of accounting.

“It takes a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to earn and maintain AACSB accreditation and the specialized accounting accreditation,” said Jerry Trapnell, vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Schools not only must meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and staff must make a commitment to ongoing improvement to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality business and accounting education to students.”

The UNL College of Business Administration has long taken pride in integrating business ethics into the student experience. U.S. News and World Report ranked UNL’s undergraduate business program among the top 40 public business schools. Businessweek ranked the UNL Business Ethics program at the top of all other Big Ten Conference schools. The undergraduate finance program was named the third strongest program in the Big Ten and the MBA was named the fourth best part-time program in the nation and number one in the Midwest.
