A new event helped kick off Commencement festivities at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as more than 300 people attended the inaugural College of Business Administration Senior Sendoff Friday, May 6, at The Railyard in Lincoln’s Haymarket District. The college’s graduating seniors, along with their families and friends, and faculty and staff, were invited to the event to celebrate the graduates.
“I had a blast at the Senior Sendoff. It was great spending time with students, faculty and staff from CBA and introducing my parents to the people I’ve spent the past four years with,” said graduate Nicci Poehling, marketing major from Overland Park, Kansas. “I loved having everyone I know in one place and one last opportunity to see everyone before we part ways.”
Sponsored by Cabela’s World’s Foremost Bank and Fiserv, the sendoff was a fun, casual celebration featuring a video of graduating CBA students on the Railyard’s big screen called “The Cube”, gifts for the graduates and heavy appetizers. A card about how to stay connected with CBA via social media and where graduates could update their addresses and emails so they don’t lose touch with UNL, was also provided.
“CBA is committed to increasing engagement among the students and the college,” said Dr. Donna Dudney, associate dean for undergraduate programs and associate professor of finance. “An event like this allows us to celebrate the success of our graduates and encourage them to stay connected as they Start Something.”
The event was hosted by the CBA Office of Undergraduate Programs in partnership with the CBA Student Advisory Board. The board represents the CBA student body as a whole and promotes the functions of CBA. Members bring student ideas to the faculty, staff and administration. Several SAB members volunteered at the event.
“This is a perfect example of how our college supports those of us who want to Start Something with CBA,” said Travis Nelson, CBA Student Advisory Board president and a junior agribusiness major from Omaha.
