Schniederjans Elected Decision Sciences Institute President

Dr. Marc Schniederjans, C. Wheaton Battey Distinguished Professor of Business at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration, was recently elected president of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI). The DSI is a worldwide organization recognized for a broad based membership that examines the art and science of decision making processes.

“Everyone makes decisions every day and decision science is a way to learn how to make decisions more efficiently and effectively,” Schniederjans said. “It’s not just business academia. It’s any kind of decision making from government to military to a variety of practitioners. With the popularity of business analytics, decision sciences is positioned for substantial recognition which will also benefit us at CBA.”

Schniederjans is helping to develop a business analytics certification within the graduate program in the college.

“The opportunity to benefit and learn from the methodologies and techniques that decision sciences provides helps augment the activity we’re undertaking in our graduate program. Right now I’m developing a course on business analytics that’s specifically for our MBA students.”

The DSI is celebrating its 44th year in 2013, and Schniederjans has been active in the organization at various levels since 1974. In his role as president he will be responsible for developing strategy for future activities within the organization.

In addition to being a recognized leader in the field of decision sciences and business analytics, he has also written a text book on supply chain management with the Financial Times Press.

The Financial Times Press liked the book so much that I became a consulting editor to them in business analytics. I’m currently writing a book on business analytics that will eventually find its way into our curriculum,”he said.

Later this year Schniederjans will be presenting at a meeting of the Institute of Supply Chain Management on the topic of analytics and supply chain management.

Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business Administration, believes Schniederjans appointment demonstrates the wide influence and excellence of professors at CBA.

“It is a great honor and tribute to be recognized by his peers as president of the DSI,” Plowman said. “This will mean a lot not only to Marc but to our college and the entire University.”
