Partnership Summit Welcomes Nearly 200 Board Members to CBA

A record number of nearly 200 advisory board members met at the UNL College of Business Administration on Friday, September 19, for the 2014 Partnership Summit and Advisory Board meetings. Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business Administration, gave the State of the College address at the Grand Manse in downtown Lincoln where she emphasized the positive trajectories happening at CBA including business major enrollments approaching 3,900, business minors totaling about 1,500 and 35 new faculty hired in the last four years.

Plowman also talked about the increasing academic stature of the college since joining the Big Ten conference.

“We are now at number 51 in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of undergraduate business programs which is a jump of 21 spots from last year. We’re ranked number 29 among public schools. This is great progress and so much of it has to do with the terrific work of our faculty,” said Plowman.

After the address Plowman presented Jim Kroeker with the first ever Business Leadership Award. Kroeker is a CBA alumnus and vice chair of the Financial Accounting Standards Board. He was inducted into the School of Accountancy Hall of Fame in 2013.
Plowman also shared a video about the new CBA building project and introduced keynote speaker and men’s head basketball coach Tim Miles who entertained the crowd over lunch.

A total of 13 boards met at CBA during the day including the dean’s advisory board, dean’s young alumni advisory board, actuarial science, school of accountancy, junior school of accountancy, finance, marketing, management, MBA, supply chain management, center for entrepreneurship, bureau of business research and economic education.

Supporters also attended a tailgate the next day prior to the Nebraska vs. Miami football game at the site of the new CBA building at 14th and Vine street. Plowman shared the latest renderings of the building with attendees.

The 240,000 square-foot building will be built through private donations and is scheduled for completion in 2017 with a ground breaking ceremony estimated for early 2015.
