Nebraska to Grant 119 Business Degrees, Aug. 13

Combined Summer Commencement Celebrates Newest Alumni
Nebraska to Grant 119 Business Degrees, Aug. 13
More than 100 business students will cross the stage to receive their diploma at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln summer commencement this Saturday, August 13, at 9 a.m. in Pinnacle Bank Arena. The university will award doctoral, master’s, juris doctorate and baccalaureate degrees.

More than 100 business students receive their degrees at a combined summer graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremony at 9 a.m., Saturday, August 13 in Pinnacle Bank Arena. These graduates represent nine majors and three graduate programs within the college and hail from 23 states and five countries.

Susan M. Swearer, Willa Cather Professor and chair of the Department of Educational Psychology at Nebraska, will deliver the commencement address. Swearer is a licensed psychologist, co-director of the Bullying Research Network and director of the Nebraska Bullying Prevention and Intervention Initiative.

Like his peers, Zack Wahab-Cheek, senior economics and music major from Elkhorn, Nebraska, graduates prepared for his career and success in graduate school at the London School of Economics. As a student, he served as a student fellow for the Yeutter Institute of International Trade and Finance, conducted undergraduate research, and was in involved in the ASUN student government, Afghan Student Association, Big Red Investment Club, Chess Club and the Cornhusker Marching Band. Looking forward to Saturday, he reflects back on the benefits of being a Husker.

“I'd lived my entire life in west Omaha not realizing how amazing our state was or how much it has to offer. Now on the tail end of my four years at Nebraska, I've made close lifelong friends from places like Gering, Cozad, Alliance or a dozen other places I hardly knew existed. Simply put, what better way to be a Nebraskan, and to take pride in that fact, than to attend its single defining educational institution,” Wahab-Cheek said.

For Jett Petit, senior accounting major from Holdrege, Nebraska, his time at the College of Business gave new insight into how he can make an impact in business.

“Nebraska helped show me that there is more to business than numbers and figures, but an underlying need in each individual's heart to be helped. Accounting is just one way I can use my gifts to help serve others,” Petit said.

The ceremony will be available to watch online at the Commencement website. For more information about the event or to watch it live, visit: https://commencement.unl.edu.
