Kathy's Point: New Opportunities Guided by Strategic Plan
Dean Kathy Farrell invites all alumni and friends to the College of Business for fall celebrations.
Excitement is building for our new academic year and as our insiders, alumni and friends, we want YOU to come back and be part of it! Guided by our new strategic plan, many new opportunities are underway at the College of Business for the fall. Mark your calendars so you can reconnect, stretch your strengths and celebrate with us at the following events.

The college’s annual Back to School Bash, Friday, August 23 – alumni and friends are encouraged to attend and celebrate our new and returning students, faculty and staff and the N150 – the 150th anniversary as the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Our annual Donor Tailgate, Saturday, September 28 – alumni and friends who donated $250 or more in total in the last ten years to the College of Business will be invited to a special tailgate prior to the Ohio State football game (No minors under the age of 21 may attend due to university policy). There is still time – donate by August 23, 2019

The university’s new Homecoming Events for Alumni and Friends, Friday, October 4 – celebrate 150 years with events such as open houses and tours on City, East and Innovation Campuses, a revamped parade, Cornstock – a carnival-like celebration with guest appearances, and Cocktails in the Coliseum – presented by the Nebraska Alumni Association.

Our annual Business Alumni Tailgate, Saturday, November 16 – reconnect with alumni, faculty and staff prior to the Wisconsin football game. (No minors under the age of 21 may attend due to university policy.) Don’t miss out, register today

We also have new educational offerings, which allow our faculty to share their expertise and you to learn additional skills to prepare you for that next challenge, change or promotion as you continue to lead the future of business.

New Executive and Professional Development Programs – Come back to stretch your strengths and “beef up” your skill set through our Center for Executive and Professional Development programs, choose from a 90-minute Power Lunch presentation or one of our day-long or multi-day certificate programs. Check out our programs.

New Online Graduate Degrees and Certificates - After more than 50 years as a leader in MBA education, the College of Business builds upon its highly ranked online MBA program – MBA@Nebraska – to offer a portfolio of online graduate programs including master’s degrees in business analytics and finance, as well as graduate certificate programs in business analytics and supply chain management. Many more graduate certificates are coming soon and the newest addition is human resource management.

We also want our students to be engaged, involved and successful at the College of Business and to do that, we need you. The following new efforts start soon to help students and alumni connect to expand our vibrant community.

Connecting Alumni and Students – soon alumni and students will be able to connect at any time from any place through a new platform being piloted by the College of Business and the Nebraska Alumni Association. Stay tuned as more information will be coming soon.

Personalizing Student Engagement: The College of Business will pilot a new Circle of Excellence program in the spring of 2020 with selected student groups. The program will help create a culture of engagement, track engagement activities and recognize highly-engaged students. Activities will be tied to learning outcomes and the new strategic plan. Benefits include scholarships and digital badging on LinkedIn and career fair nametags indicating to employers that these students are highly engaged.

As we prepare for re-accreditation this year, I want to reflect on our mission and specifically how those at the College of Business led the future of business in the past. In 1916, when the College of Business was called the School of Commerce, we became one of 16 charter members of the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). A global association, AACSB impacts business education through quality assurance, accelerating innovation and professional development to more than 800 accredited business schools worldwide.

With all these new opportunities and offerings, it is important for us to remember that none of these things happen without our people. Together – our alumni, our students, our faculty, our staff and our friends – we are Nebraska Business.

Go Big Red!
Kathy
