Back to School Bash Held for Last Time at Current CBA Building

The first of a year full of lasts happened when the College of Business Administration hosted the Back to School Bash at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. With CBA moving into a new building next fall, the celebration marked the final kickoff to the school year on the west side of the current CBA building.

“The bash is so fun and has great giveaways. It provides a different way to meet people and get to know the College of Business Administration,” said Kate Frazier of Springfield, Missouri, a graduate student in the master of arts in business with a specialization in intercollegiate athletics administration (MAIAA) program.
More than 500 CBA students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and business partners attended the celebration, which featured the band Lemon Fresh Day, the opportunity to win prizes by meeting staff at booths, and slushies, popcorn and ice cream to snack on. Booths were hosted by Undergraduate Programs, Graduate Programs, Executive Education, Career Services at CBA, Information Technology Services, and Communications, Marketing and External Relations. Attendees were also able to interact with faculty and staff in “Department Row”, which featured tables staffed by the college’s six academic departments: accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, and supply chain management and analytics. In addition, Sandhills Publishing, the bash’s platinum sponsor, had a booth staffed by CBA alumni and former interns.

“To have something like this bash is awesome. I really like the atmosphere,” said Zach Larson-Wurl, a freshman physics major from North Platte, Nebraska. “There have been so many events at UNL to help us meet people and introduce us to so many things and people. It’s a very friendly campus.”
The bash coincided with a milestone in the construction of the new CBA building at 14th and Vine Streets. The building passed its 500th day of construction earlier in the week and saw the 220-foot tower crane, in place for nearly a year, taken down at the site as construction continued. The $84 million, 240,000-square-foot building is set to open in the fall of 2017.
“The changes on the corner of 14th and Vine over this last year are remarkable. The dedication of our current alumni to provide a state of the art home for our future alumni is a huge milestone,” said Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of CBA. “Our growth has been tremendous. A new building, continued enrollment growth and a larger more engaged CBA community are just a few things we can be proud of.”
