Research + Discovery
  • Dr. Alok Kumar, W.W. Marshall College Professor and associate professor of marketing, was featured in WalletHub's Ask the Experts where he discussed the market for insurance products. Read the WalletHub Q&A.
  • Dr. Fred Luthans, professor emeritus of management, received the 2021 Distinguished Award for Scholarly Contributions to Management from the Academy of Management. The award honors his significant contributions that advanced the field of management and organizational knowledge and practice.
  • Jill O’Donnell, director of the Clayton Yeutter Institute of International Trade and Finance at Nebraska, wrote an Aug. 7 guest column for the Omaha World-Herald on the institute and its mission. She highlighted the new Yeutter Student Scholar Award Fund and a paper by Emily Loftis, '21, economics major. O'Donnell wrote, “In the spirit of one of Nebraska’s great public servants, the students who connect with the institute that bears his name should be poised for trade policy careers that benefit not only themselves, but also ultimately Nebraska, the agriculture industry and the country.” Read the Omaha World-Herald article.
  • Dr. Jennifer Ryan, Ron and Carol Cope College Professor and chair of the Department of Supply Chain Management and Analytics, was appointed as the focused issue editor for Supply Chain and Logistics at IISE Transactions, the flagship journal of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), which is the main professional society for academics in industrial and systems engineering. Each issue of the journal focuses on one of four distinct areas of industrial engineering. Ryan previously served as a department editor and will now lead the journal's focused issue on the topic of supply chain management.
  • Dr. Eric Thompson, K.H. Nelson Professor of Economics and director of the Bureau of Business Research, was interviewed for an Aug. 20 Lincoln Journal Star article on Lincoln’s July unemployment rate dropping to 1.9%. He said that while low unemployment rates are good news for workers, they “reinforce that this is a challenging time for state and local businesses seeking to expand their workforce.” Read the Lincoln Journal Star article.
  • Thompson was also featured in WalletHub's Ask the Experts where he discussed what factors led Nebraska to be ranked the third hardest-working state in the U.S. Read the WalletHub Q&A.
  • Dr. Julie Wu, assistant professor of finance, and her co-authors received the first prize in the Spängler-IQAM award for the Best Investments Paper in the Review of Finance. This award was presented at the European Finance Association meetings in August 2021 for her paper titled "What Do Short Sellers Know?" Review of Finance is among the Financial Times top 50 journals.
  • Four business faculty were named Nebraska Governance and Technology Center Faculty Fellows including: Dr. Özgür Araz, associate professor of supply chain management and analytics, Dr. S. Sajeesh, associate professor of marketing, Dr. Erkut Sönmez, associate professor of supply chain management and analytics, and Dr. Varkey Titus Jr., associate professor of management. The program aims to develop a cohort of academics who will engage governance and technology challenges in interdisciplinary terms. Read the Nebraska Today article.
Learning + Transformation
  • Erika Casarin, senior management major from Lincoln, Nebraska, hosted an event for the university community to collaboratively paint a mural on Sept. 1. Commissioned by the Center for Entrepreneurship (C4E) at the College of Business, the mural will be the first venture for her new startup called The PALETTE Project. Connection + Engagement
  • Sidney Vincent, a sophomore majoring in accounting from Sargent, Nebraska, won the amount of one year's tuition ($9,872) as a grand prize winner of the university's Voluntary Vaccine Registry giveaway. Read the Nebraska Today article about the giveaway grand prize winners.
  • A panel of three students, Business Career Center staff and college faculty spoke to employers at the annual Employer Partners Day in Howard L. Hawks Hall about best practices and how best to connect with current business students and recent graduates. The student panel included: Chika Izuegbunam, senior finance and marketing major from Omaha, Nebraska; Erika Casarin; and Ryan Page, senior management major from Dousman, Wisconsin. They shared with recruiters their favorite internship projects, preferences for working in person or remotely (or a hybrid of both), and what is most important to them in an internship or potential career role.
