Kathy’s Point: Much to Celebrate, From Worldwide Rankings to Alumni Accomplishments

April is a time for celebration for our Nebraska Business community. As the end of the semester approaches, the diligent and difficult work starts to manifest itself into good grades, summer internship placements, competition wins, honors, graduation and more.

Our MBA@Nebraska program recently ranked No. 3 in the nation and No. 9 overall globally in the latest online MBA rankings from Financial Times. Jumping five spots from last year, the program maintained the top ranking for best value in the U.S. for the second year in a row. Our Business Career Center was also recognized for providing the third best career services in the world. These honors demonstrate how we continue to be a leader in this space.

Learn more about our highly-ranked services offered in the Business Career Center when reading about Erin Fort, an actuarial science and finance major who decided to make her time in college matter by assisting others as a peer career coach in the college’s Professional Enhancement Program courses. An award-winning career services program, our peer career coaches provide one-on-one career coaching and help students create a resume and identify career goals.

Our Actuarial Science program continues to be one of the world’s best. Not only did Nebraska rank in the top 10 worldwide in research productivity in this space, but we created the database to generate this ranking for universities around the world. Read more about this ranking.

This spring, franchising returned to the university through our Center for Entrepreneurship with help from local and global franchise partners. Lindsay Thomsen, assistant professor of practice in management and director of business development for the Center for Entrepreneurship, joined the college to launch new franchising classes, start a student Franchise Club and expand the Center for Entrepreneurship's resources for Nebraska's franchise community. Franchising success depends upon multiple stakeholders within a network so we’re doing the same thing at Nebraska. By collaborating with UNO and UNK, students interested in franchising at all three campuses have access to classes and the club. We look forward to expanding this program and hope more alumni and friends will be part of it. Learn more about the franchising focus.

We hosted a sold-out Women Lead 2022 conference in March in collaboration with the College of Law. Together with wonderful alumni, faculty, business partners and friends, we empowered more than 300 women to lead through change. Read about the conference’s key takeaways.
