Festschrift Honors Dr. Fred Luthans' Career Accomplishments

A rare celebration known as Festschrift will be held for University and George Holmes Distinguished Professor of Management Fred Luthans, May 9-11 at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln, Neb. Luthans has worked at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration for 46 years, and his groundbreaking research in the area of organizational behavior has had an impact worldwide.

More than 80 colleagues, past and present students, family and friends plan to attend the event.

“I feel both honored and humbled to have such great support to create and attend this rare event,” Luthans said. “I have always taught that relationships are what really matter for career and life success. The unusual term Festschrift comes from my German heritage meaning celebration of writing. I think this is more accurately a celebration of the wonderful relationships I have been privileged to have over the years.”

The three-day event will give those attending an opportunity to put into perspective Luthans’ research and have fun roasting him at various dinners, presentations and receptions.

Dr. Gwen Combs, chair of the CBA Department of Management, believes Luthans’ work has not only stood the test of time but also reflects his ability to put into practice his own research.

“Fred’s enthusiasm for knowledge creation and synthesis is very evident in his research productivity,” Combs said. “His work enjoys global reach and offers critical practical implications for enhanced individual and organizational functioning. We are excited about this opportunity to honor and recognize Fred’s lifelong work and impact.”
