College of Business faculty, students and staff continue to excel in fulfilling the college's mission to drive discovery, create opportunity and empower individuals to lead the future of business.

Learn more about recent honors, appointments and publications at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business in this month's achievements column. The achievements of faculty, staff and students are grouped within the college’s three mission-focused goals of research + discovery, learning + transformation and connection + engagement.

Research + Discovery

  • Four business faculty were named Nebraska Governance and Technology Center Faculty Fellows including: Dr. Özgür Araz, associate professor of supply chain management and analytics; Dr. Demet Batur, associate professor of supply chain management and analytics; Dr. Laura Poppo, Clifton Chair in Leadership and professor of management; and Dr. Varkey Titus Jr., associate professor of management. The program aims to develop a cohort of academics who will engage governance and technology challenges in interdisciplinary terms.
  • Dr. Qian Chen, assistant professor of marketing, and her co-author Lingzhou Xue of Penn State University received a Data Science Research Award from Adobe for $50,000. Promoting data science in marketing, the award enables her to carry out the research on developing a new statistical learning framework to learn customer journey and marketing attribution and to obtain a better understanding of the causal effects of different types of marketing efforts on conversions. 
  • Carissa Harris, Ph.D. student in marketing, won the University Sales Center Alliance (USCA) Research Proposal competition with her proposal, "Developing and Managing Relational Identification with Customers: The Case of New-to-the-Professional and Early-Career Salespeople." The competition promotes sales research, and winners receive $2,000 to support their proposed research. Harris will work under the supervision of Dr. Ravi Sohi, chair of the Department of Marketing and Hays Distinguished Chair of Sales Excellence, for the project.
  • Dr. Mitch Herian, project director of the Bureau of Business Research, was selected as a member of the American Enterprise Institute Leadership Network. The Leadership Network is an exclusive policy education and professional development program for state-based, mid-career executives in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
  • Dr. Jenna Pieper, associate professor of management, won the International HRM Scholarly Research Award for her paper, “Perceived Workplace Gender Discrimination and Employee Consequences: A Meta-analysis and Complementary Studies Considering Country Context” published in the Journal of Management. The award, which is presented to the author of the most significant article in IHRM, is sponsored by the Human Resource Division of the Academy of Management.   • Dr. Daniel Tannenbaum, assistant professor of economics, was interviewed for a Sept. 2 KLKN story on the Trump administration’s eviction moratorium. He said it could be good for renters but have a negative impact on landlords. He added that he thinks the moratorium is not enough and that there is a need for direct financial assistance to renters.   • Dr. Eric Thompson, Karl H. Nelson Professor of Economics and director of the Bureau for Business Research, was selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of the Office of Research and Economic Development’s Research Leaders Program. Among the first of its kind in the nation, this initiative to identify and develop Nebraska’s next generation of research leaders is in partnership with the college's Center for Professional and Executive Development.   • Thompson discussed the 2020 Nebraska Thriving Index during a Sept. 8 segment on RFD-TV. The index indicates rural Nebraskans experience a high quality of life but face challenges in areas such as education attainment, cost-competitiveness and infrastructure. Learning + Transformation

  • The College of Business was ranked No. 34 best undergraduate business program at a public university and No. 53 in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Read more at: https://go.unl.edu/r8ec.
  • Morgan Holen, MBA@Nebraska student and May 2020 advertising and public relations and broadcasting graduate from Omaha, earned first-place honors in the college division of the 2020 Nebraska Broadcasters Association Pinnacle Awards. Holen received the best news feature award for “Drones Hunt Severe Weather." Read more at: https://go.unl.edu/umzj.

Connection + Engagement

  • Aakriti Agrawal, MBA@Nebraska student from Pune, India, was nominated for a 2020 Young Lincoln Leader Award for her work with the nonprofit Girls Code Lincoln, which she founded. The nonprofit builds curriculum to teach young girls technology, leadership and life skills in efforts to close the gender gap in STEM.
  • Ryan Wolff, senior actuarial science major from Brookfield, Wisconsin, will serve on the Nebraska Alumni Association Council of Alumni Ambassadors as its student representative.
