Research + Discovery

  • Jennifer Davidson, associate professor of practice in economics, Nebraska Council on Economic Education president and Nebraska Bankers Association Faculty Fellow, Nebraska Council on Economic Education president and Nebraska Bankers Association Faculty Fellow, shared financial tips for making the most out of garage sales and keeping money safe this summer in an interview with KLKN TV.   • Davidson also was featured in a WalletHub article about car insurance in Nebraska, why insurance laws differ from state to state and important things to look for when shopping for car insurance. Read the article
  • Rebecca Jack, Ph.D. student in economics, had her research published in an American Economic Association journal article about the impact of in-person schooling. She and her co-authors found that pandemic disruptions led to a significant decline in American students' standardized test scores, but those who had more days of in-person schooling saw a much smaller drop.   • The Bureau of Business Research appeared in a Silicon Prairie news article about the number of Nebraskans employed in tech positions and how data can help grow the state's tech work force. Read the article.

Learning + Transformation

  • For the Spring 2023 semester, 1,217 College of Business students were named to the Dean's List, including 1,143 undergraduates, 259 of whom achieved a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. Additionally, 74 Nebraska Business graduate students were named to the Dean’s list, with 20 finishing the term with a 4.0 GPA. Read the College of Business story.
  • May MBA graduates Jessica K. Goeller, a pediatric anesthesiologist from Australia, and Eric M. Van Horn of Lincoln, Nebraska, were named to Poets&Quants Best and Brightest online MBA students list. Read Goeller's article and Van Horn's article.
  • Martina Comin, business administration major from Vicenza, Italy, and athlete on the Nebraska women's gymnastics team, received honors as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, her second time receiving the award. To be eligible, students must have received Academic All-Big Ten Recognition, enrolled full-time in classes for the prior academic year and earned a minimum 3.70 GPA. Read the story.
  • About 46 of the 131 Nebraska student-athletes claiming spring Academic All-Big Ten honors from the Big Ten Conference pursue majors in the College of Business. To be eligible for the honor, students on varsity teams must be enrolled full-time for a year and carry a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. Connection + Engagement

  • Paula Caldwell, associate director of career and professional development of the Business Career Center, was named the 2023 Outstanding Career Services Professional by the Hire Big10+ Awards Committee. Selected for her work in the College of Business, including with the Professional Enhancement Program, she leads 10 peer career coaches and recruits the new cohort while assuring the center's services are current and inclusive. The award recognizes an individual with five to nine years of full-time experience in career services and shows genuine support and regard for students and colleagues, an outstanding commitment to students' career success and is active in the profession. Caldwell's award was announced during the annual Allerton Conference by the Hire Big10+ Consortium, a network of career services professionals from Big Ten schools as well as DePaul University, the University of Chicago and University of Notre Dame.
  • Three business students will serve as managing directors for the Husker Venture Fund student-led organization for the 2023-24 academic year: Reese Munson, economics major from Omaha; William Manhart, finance major from Omaha; and Colby Marsden, finance major from Stilwell, Kansas.
  • Wesley Boyce, assistant professor of practice in supply chain management and analytics and program director of master of science in supply chain management, visited the Union Pacific headquarters in Omaha on June 8 to present to 50 members of the company's bulk commodities group. He presented on current logistics and supply chain management trends during their semi-annual meeting that brings together employees from throughout the United States.
